The two extended halves that make up The Fiddler Now Steps to the Road are similar, with a minimal skeleton that grows almost imperceptibly from scrapes that sound like a creaky gate swaying in the wind to a lush and enveloping quilt of tones. The compositions hover precariously, observing the passing storms without seeking answers or balance.

Recorded in his apartment in Brooklyn, Steve Gunn's offers up a delightful selection of refrains from solo guitar, spinning a tapestry of wandering phrases that slowly burrow into vast dream states. Along with subtle breaths of synth washes, the sound of cars passing and dogs barking outside, Steve's refreshingly human tracks pierce little glimmers of light in the opaque global situation. A real treat for old and new Steve Gunn fans alike.

The ensemble of Christian Wallumrod continues to evolve in its own idiosyncratic way on "Outstairs". By now, Wallumrods compositional signature is instantly recognizable. Nobody else writes pieces like this multi-dimensional chamber music inspired by the sonorities of Norwegian folk and church music, influenced by early music and the post-Cage avant-garde, and liberated by jazzs freedom of thought.
