Lonely Robot, the project masterminded by producer, guitarist and singer/songwriter John Mitchell (It Bites, Frost*), returns with its 5th studio album A Model Life. Broadening his sonic palette, John explores new territory on this record, crafting sounds more expansive in nature but never lacking his inherent feel for big melodies and even bigger choruses. From the introspective title track, to the soaring and epic ‘Duty Of Care, this a record unlike anything in Mitchell’s catalogue. Once again joined by drummer extraordinaire Craig Blundell (Steve Hackett), ‘A Model Life’ is yet another brilliant entry into an already impressive career.

This record contains the complete works for piano duo (piano 4-hands and 2 pianos) by Paul Hindemith (1895–1963). While Hindemith was foremost a violist, not a pianist, he knew his way around the piano, and this familiarity is reflected in his compositions for the instrument, all of a decent technical level and featuring great originality of expression. Even if he doesn’t immediately spring to pianists’ minds, he deserves to be included – alongside Debussy, Schönberg, Ravel, Stravinsky, Bartoìk and Prokofiev – in the small group of innovators who significantly enhanced the piano repertoire in the early 20th century, Hindemith in particular with his Suite 1922, three solo piano sonatas and Ludus Tonalis.

Acclaimed composer, artist, and producer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith returns to Ghostly International with Let’s Turn it Into Sound, her most ambitious, intuitive, and inviting work to date. Hailing from Montreal, Canada, IKO has always been shrouded in mystery. All 3 members come from an academic background (electroacoustic composition, etc), and they met at the University of Montreal in the music department. Taking from their collective influences of 60’s pop, prog and minimalist composers as well as early industrial, they played in a few early bands before solidifying the all-synth incarnation of IKO in it’s definitive lineup. This coveted album by minimal synth aficionados around the globe has been out of print and very rare since it’s original release in 1982.

The discovery of the music of Leadbelly was transformative for young Adam Nussbaum. The only child of artistic parents in Norwalk, Connecticut, Nussbaum was exposed to many recordings, from classical and folk to jazz and blues. It was the image of Huddie Ledbetter on the original Folkways 10-inch record covers that fascinated the five year old. The celebrated blues and folk musician's music seared itself into his ears, as it does in young listeners, informing the future drummer's musical approach for years to come, most explicitly on his new recording, "The Leadbelly Project".

Xaybu: The Unseen is the highly-anticipated sophomore release from Sélébéyone, the international avant-rap collective comprised of MCs HPrizm (New York City) and Gaston Bandimic (Dakar), and saxophonists Steve Lehman (Los Angeles) and Maciek Lasserre (Paris). Described as “legitimately new” and a “revelation” by Pitchfork, the group’s eponymous 2016 debut was hailed as a game-changing synthesis of underground hip-hop, modern jazz and live electronic music. On Xaybu, Sélébéyone – which means “intersection” in Wolof – continues to build on its groundbreaking work with shifting rhythms and state-of-the art sound design, now with a newfound sense of effortless fluidity. The result is a profound musical statement that deftly explores spirituality and mysticism through the lens of experimental music.

This 1976 session finds pianist George Shearing at a crossroads in his career, transitioning from his classic quintet to working with smaller duos or trios. He is accompanied here only by bassist Andrew Simpkins, an alumnus of The Three Sounds. The material focuses mainly on pop hits, from the Beatles to "Mack the Knife".

Sunny & The Sunliners were a unique pop music group in 1960s Texas with a style that blended R&B, tejano, blues and mariachi. All but one of their 22 members were Chicano, and the band represented a distinctive crossover moment for Mexican Americans in popular music with a string of hit singles in 1962 and 1963. This collection from Big Crown Records revisits some of their lesser known songs.

Power metal – a forceful, hard-driving, and aggressive yet melodic style of heavy metal associated with headbangers like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Queensrÿche, and King Diamond – got started in the '70s and reached its commercial peak in the '80s. On ars moriendi Paul Giger looks at life’s flowing patterns, at death and renewal, as he brings together compositions by Bach and new music drawing inspiration from the work of painter Giovanni Segantini and Swiss folk traditions. The album was recorded in Maloja, where Segantini spent the last years of his life.
