New Orleans-based band the Revivalists left their home base in the Big Easy to record their surprise new EP, cutting tracks in another Southern city famous for its musical contributions. Made in Muscle Shoals, recorded at Fame Studios and out now, combines the group’s anthemic, uplifting brand of roots rock with the northwest Alabama’s trademark gritty soul on reimagined versions of the Revivalists’ songs, one choice cover, and one new track.

Confronting the ongoing mental health and familial trials that have plagued Allison since pre-pubescence, color theory explores three central themes: blue, representing sadness and depression; yellow, symbolizing physical and emotional illness; and, finally, gray, representing darkness, emptiness and loss. Written mostly while on tour and recorded in Allison’s hometown of Nashville at Alex The Great, color theory was produced by Gabe Wax (who also produced Clean), mixed by Lars Stalfors (Mars Volta, HEALTH, St. Vincent), and features the live Soccer Mommy band on studio recording for the first time, with a live take at the foundation of almost every track. The resulting album is a masterpiece that paints an uncompromisingly honest self-portrait of an artist who, according to 100+ publications, already released one of the Best Albums of 2018 and the 2010s, and is about to release an early favorite of 2020.

Stay There 'Til I Get There is Lynn Anderson's first album for Columbia Records following a successful stint on the independent Chart label. Since Anderson's crossover smash "Rose Garden" was released several months later, Stay There 'Til I Get There sounds just like one of her Chart albums, down to the banjo picking on the hit title track. The one departure from her earlier records is the poverty of compositions by Anderson's mother, Liz Anderson. Producer Glenn Sutton takes her place to an extent, but Anderson also covers the underrated Sonny James song "True Love's a Blessing" and Bobbie Gentry's hit "Fancy." "Rose Garden" gave Anderson's sound a strong push toward pop music, so those who enjoy her early straight country recordings will also enjoy this first album for Columbia.

Multi-instrumentalist & vocalist Slim Gaillard's joyous music appealed to adults and little children alike, with songs about love, traveling, potato chips, beer and everything in between. Searching For You: The Lost Singles of McVouty (1958-1974) is the first collection of new Gaillard music officially released with the endorsement of the Gaillard family in decades. Very little is known about the label sources (ie, Putti Records, SGM Records, Delgado, Blue Chip Records, etc.), but they all seem to have been made for companies likely owned by Slim that he was sending out to A&R men and radio stations trying to score regional hits.

A saxophonist whose patiently evolving style has been one of the more interesting stories in contemporary jazz, Ravi Coltrane helps launch Columbia's Eighty-Eights subsidiary (founded by Japanese producer Yasohachi "88" Itoh) with a set that is by turns more freewheeling and lyrical than his previous major label efforts. Featuring two bands–one with George Colligan on piano and the other Andy Milne–Mad 6 reflects Ravi's involvement in both jazz classicism and the throbbing, funkified bop of Brooklyn's M-Base school.

Sketches of Spain is an album by Miles Davis, recorded between November 1959 and March 1960 at the Columbia 30th Street Studio in New York City. An extended version of the second movement of Joaquín Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez (1939) is included, as well as a piece called "Will o' the Wisp", from Manuel de Falla's ballet El amor brujo (1914–1915). Sketches of Spain is regarded as an exemplary recording of Third Stream, a musical fusion of jazz, European classical, and styles from world music.
