Robert Orledge's research into Debussys sketches and incomplete drafts has resulted in the unearthing and reconstruction of numerous lost masterpieces, the piano versions of which are given their première recordings here. Unknown versions of famous pieces such as La Fille aux cheveux de lin and an unused movement from Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien appear alongside the ecstatic Prélude de lHistoire de Tristan. This uniquely valuable programme also includes the life-affirming suite for No-ja-li (Le Palais du Silence) with narration.

Shabaka & The Ancestors was formed in 2016; Shabaka Hutchings had been flying to Johannesburg to play with trumpeter/bandleader Mandla Mlangeni, who connected him to a group of South African jazz musicians that Hutchings admired. After several sessions, their first album Wisdom Of Elders was made. This follow-up record reunites the group, who recorded again in Johannesburg and Cape Town last year. This album is more urgent, more unrelenting, darker and energetic and presents a major social commentary in the context of ancient traditions. Shabaka explains this is "what happens after that point when life as we know it can't continue."

The album features two string quartets which thematically deal with the subject of death. Schubert’s Death and the Maiden, No. 14 in D Minor, a key piece in chamber music repertoire, dates from 1824. Mendelssohn’s String Quartet No. 6 in F Minor, Op. 80 was composed in 1847. He composed the piece as an homage to his beloved sister Fanny who had died on 17 May 1847 and it bore the title "Requiem for Fanny". vision string quartet have won awards in numerous competitions, have studied with members of the Artemis Quartet and the Alban Berg Quartet. Seven years after Bob Geldof reunited with The Boomtown Rats for the first time since their 1986 split, the group release a new album Marking 2020 — the Year of the Rat — with a new 10-song collection called Citizens of Boomtown, the band’s first LP since 1984.
