The Mediterranean Sea is framed by cultures that have shaped modern thought and art. The music of the region is wildly diverse but, due to both voluntary and forced cultural exchanges over the ages, remarkably interconnected. Spanish pianist Chano Dominguez and Israeli flutist Hadar Noiberg have found each other, and their musical languages fit beautifully, as can be heard on their new recording, Paramus.

Christophe Panzani, one of France's most in demand saxophonists (heard with drummer Anne Paceo, the bands Hocus Pocus, Thiefs, The Drops). A true musical quest, in which the saxophonist explores the possibilities of combining the sound of his tenor to the piano, opening the sound spectrum of jazz in a very unusual way by using ancient tunings on the piano. Nine tracks featuring an amazing cast of talented pianists, from ECM-recording artist Yonathan Avishai to the pop-singer turned pianist Yael Naim, including keyboard electronic-influenced NYC wizard BIGYUKI, Edouard Ferlet (known for his reworking of Bach's music), Eric Legnini (one of France's finest jazz pianists), Brazilian-born Leonardo Montana, Tony Paeleman (from Vincent Peirani's band) and Guillaume Poncelet (a frequent collaborator of Gaël Faye).

The music of drummer/composer Dan Weiss always exceeds expectations. No matter the musical situation, he tends to push the boundaries of genre, ensemble sound and expectations. The title of his new trio recording, Utica Box, is a fitting conflagration of a barbaric psychiatric treatment, the Utica crib, and Weiss’s tendency to write and perform music that is outside the box.

"Xanadu" is the title song from the soundtrack album Xanadu, and is the title song from the 1980 film of the same name. The song is performed by the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) and Olivia Newton-John. Newton-John sings the primary vocals, with ELO lead singer Jeff Lynne adding "parenthetic" vocals in the style of their other songs on the Xanadu soundtrack, along with ELO providing the instrumentation. It is Jeff Lynne's favourite song of all that he has written.
The single reached number one in several countries, and was the band's only UK number one single, when it peaked there for two weeks in July 1980. It was certified as "silver" by the British Phonographic Industry. The song peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

One from the Heart is a soundtrack album of Tom Waits compositions for the Francis Ford Coppola film of the same name. It was recorded from October 1980 to September 1981, and released in February 1982. It was during this period that Waits met his wife Kathleen Brennan, an employee at the studio where it was recorded. Crystal Gayle features prominently on the record, performing either solo or in duets with Waits. The soundtrack was nominated for an Academy Award for Original Music Score.

Steeleye Span's third album "Ten Man Mop Or Mr. Reservoir Butler Rides Again" from 1971 is the only seventies album by this group I do not have in my collection.

The radio recordings between 1939 and 1945 with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Wilhelm Furtwangler are among classical music's most compelling sound documents. Created at the peak of the collaboration between orchestra and conductor, Furtwangler's artist personality is conveyed more vividly than anywhere else. What can be heard is music in which inspiration and the expressive will know no bounds and in which, not least, the existential experience of the Second World War reverberates. For the first time, the Berliner Philharmoniker are releasing a complete edition of these recordings.

ECHO classical music winner Olga Scheps and the Kuss Quartet are convincingly committed to the piano quintet of Mieczyslaw Weinberg, whose 100th birthday will be celebrated in December 2019. In recent years, Mieczyslaw Weinberg has received the attention due to the long-unknown Soviet composer, who lived from 1919 to 1996 - with performances of his operas at renowned festivals and the inclusion of his instrumental works in the repertoire. A central composition is his piano quintet, which was composed in Moscow in 1944, during the Second World War.

Like no other German pianist, Chris Gall has consistently and creatively expanded the stylistic boundaries of jazz in the last few years, inspiring audiences from the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival to the JazzBaltica.

Though wildly misunderstood when first released (like most art that’s ahead of its time), Gene Clark's third solo album—his most focused and intricately-produced shot at musical immortality—is now revered as something of a lost masterpiece. Expectations were high for the former Byrd, who had signed a solo deal after he’d been the bright spot in the band’s abortive 1973 reunion.

First sollo album in which, Josienne Clarke finds her life laid bare and played out in the leave-it-all-behind-and-start-anew nature of the lyrics. Josienne accompanies herself on pared-back acoustic and electric guitar throughout. She's joined on the album by experimental piano prodigy Elliott Galvin, innovative jazz drummer Dave Hamblett, celebrated Scottish harpist Mary Ann Kennedy and guitarist/bassist Sonny Johns who co-produced the record with Josienne.
