Leonard Bernstein was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts. He took piano lessons as a boy and attended the Garrison and Boston Latin Schools. At Harvard University, he studied with Walter Piston, Edward Burlingame-Hill, and A. Tillman Merritt, among others. Before graduating in 1939, he made an unofficial conducting debut with his own incidental music to "The Birds," and directed and performed in Marc Blitzstein's "The Cradle Will Rock." Then at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, he studied piano with Isabella Vengerova, conducting with Fritz Reiner, and orchestration with Randall Thompson.

The 34-year-old Bergen-born tenor/soprano saxophonist-composer Marius Neset presents his new recording Viaduct and makes his boldest, most restlessly diverse statement to date. On his fifth album for leading European label ACT, Neset organically integrates a wide-ranging, colourful kaleidoscope of influences with his compelling compositions/arrangements for a pair of extended suites. Procol's Ninth is the eighth studio album (ninth including Live) by Procol Harum, and was released in September 1975. Produced by songwriters Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Procol's Ninth featured a slightly different direction from the previous album, with a much more stark sound than Chris Thomas's more elaborate productions.

Recital is a compilation of recordings Billie Holiday made in 1952 and 1954 in New York City with some impressive musicians, among them Oscar Peterson. The material largely consists of songs from 1921 to 1935, many taken from the Great American Songbook.

This 1955 collection of standards features a preponderance of ballads, putting the emphasis on Holiday's voice, stylings and her sensitive, intuitive interpretations. Among the session musicians backing Holiday are Harry “Sweets” Edison on trumpet and Benny Carter on alto sax. Holiday could still sing better than most, her sense of rhythm still mostly intact, her unusual timbre still there (perhaps even a bit more idiosyncratic with age) and still able to tell the story of any song. And what songs she was given for these sessions: there isn't a dud in the bunch.

Freeways is the sixth studio album by Canadian rock band Bachman–Turner Overdrive, released in 1977.
