In Troubadours the idea was not to be in historical accuracy, but rather in an imaginary ambition of what could be today a poetic music carried by a very simple instrumentation: two wind instruments, a drone and some percussions. Sylvain Rifflet was inspired by recordings of secular medieval music pieces (often by unknown author). I never made a modal record and I wanted to try this adventure while making sure to stay as far away as possible from the saxophonist clichés who embarked on modal music. In this case the reference to Coltrane is quite complex to avoid. Turning to a hybrid sound: modal music and Indian drones, I had wider and more interesting musical possibilities for this project.

Sheffield rock ‘n’ rollers Reverend & The Makers have announced a compilation of their most loved tracks, spanning their career so far. Titled the ‘Best of Reverend & The Makers’, the double album offers a huge variety and includes fan favourite from their debut ‘Heavyweight Champion Of The World‘ and their most recent single ‘Black Flowers‘. Rounding the release is two new songs, especially recorded for this compilation titled ‘Elastic Fantastic’ and ‘Te Quiero Pero.’ It is set for release on September 20th.

It includes selected highlights from sessions for John Peel, David Jensen, Janice Long, Phill Jupitus, Bob Harris, Tom Robinson and more. Many are previously unreleased.

Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontesi interprets Schubert’s last three piano sonatas (D958-D960) on his PENTATONE debut album, after years of engagement with these extraordinary works. These sonatas continue to fascinate pianists and listeners until this very day. They are arguably among the most existential music ever written for the piano, full of beauty and sadness, celebrating life and at the same time anticipating the composer’s untimely death.

The two splendid works on this album resulted from Manuel de Falla's encounter with the husband-and-wife team of dramatists Martínez Sierra-Lejárraga: Love the Magician, whose eminently ‘gypsy’ inspiration takes us to the very heart of the flamenco repertory, here magnificently embodied under the direction of maestro Pablo Heras-Casado; and the brilliant pantomime The Three-cornered Hat, for which Picasso designed the sets and costumes – exactly 100 years ago!

Although Bach is viewed today mainly as a monumental composer, it was as a dazzling organist that he made his mark during his lifetime. The present recording, featuring a diverse array of works performed by the organist Kei Koito, shows why. In Bach’s time, organ works were divided into distinct categories: free pieces (pieces based on freely conceived ideas rather than chorale melodies), chorale settings (pieces based on chorale tunes), and transcriptions. Kei Koito touches on all three genres as she presents a fascinating survey of Bach organ music.

Electric Warrior is the sixth album by British rock group T. Rex, and is widely considered to be one of the quintessential glam rock releases. Electric Warrior reached number thirty-two in the US; it went to number one for several weeks in the UK, becoming the biggest album of 1971. In 2003 it was ranked number 160 in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. The album contains two of T. Rex’s most popular songs, “Get It On” and “Jeepster.” In the United States, “Get It On”‘s title was modified to “Bang a Gong (Get It On)” to distinguish it from Chase’s song “Get It On,” which was also released in late 1971. (The printing of the song title “Bang a Gong (Get It On)” on the back cover of original Reprise Records U.S. copies of Electric Warrior is obviously in a different typefont from the surrounding text, with the song’s original title retained when printing the lyrics.) “Get It On” was T. Rex’s biggest single and their only U.S. hit (#10).

Voulez-Vous is the sixth studio album by the Swedish group ABBA, released in 1979. It features a number of hits such as "Chiquitita", "Does Your Mother Know" and "I Have a Dream" and showed the group embrace disco music, which was at its peak at the time. The album topped the charts in a number of countries and was one of the top five-selling albums in the UK for that year. It was the first ABBA album to be mainly recorded at Polar Studios in Stockholm, and the only ABBA album to include a studio recording made outside Sweden: the instrumental backing track for the title track was partly recorded at Criteria Studios in Miami.
