A new signing for Delphian, In Echo is made up of some of Europe’s finest young early-music specialists. Each a soloist in their own right, under director Gawain Glenton they have put together a fascinating snapshot of the musical landscape during the heyday of the Hanseatic League. The seafaring nations of northern Europe have always been connected: London to Tallinn via Lübeck, Hamburg, Bremen and the ports of Holland, Denmark and Sweden.

Irreverent pop masters They Might Be Giants have returned with their 20th studio album, the straightforwardly titled I Like Fun. Announced in press material as the band's latest "rock album" in order to separate it from the gleeful children's material they've released over the last decade, this description unfortunately also hints at some of the less imaginative textures and production on I Like Fun. Luckily, TMBG split the difference between these sometimes workmanlike rock exercises and other more interesting compositions.

Nashville country-rock band Lanco are closing out 2017 with a crescendo, as their single "Greatest Love Story" is currently spending a second week in the Number One spot on country radio. They'll carry that momentum forward into 2018, when they release their debut LP Hallelujah Nights on January 19th.

The release, Bahamas Is Afie, is the first self-produced album from the Ontario-based musician. With this record he pursued a far more complex sound than on prior releases and is responsible for the majority of the instrumentation. The album follows 2011's Barchords, which was praised for being a reserved yet melodically rewarding exploration of relationships and heartache by The New Yorker. SPIN recently premiered the first pre-release track from the album, All The Time, saying Bahamas distills his brand of breezy soul…with summer-ready falsetto harmonies that float over a distorted riff, before ending with a quick solo, a move that reminds this laidback Canuck can shred.

Quicksilver Messenger Service's debut effort was a little more restrained and folky than some listeners had expected, given their reputation for stretching out in concert. While some prefer the mostly live Happy Trails, this self-titled collection is inarguably their strongest set of studio material, with the accent on melodic folk-rock.

French chanteuse Francoise Hardy was riding high in her popularity when this set was issued in 1975, made up of tracks from 1973 and 1974 as well. The overall feeling of Message Personnel is cinematic. There are the sweeping string arrangements of the legendary Michel Bernholc on all but one track. His direction of a basic rock band backed by a lush set of strings underlined Hardy's wispy yet compelling vocals. On the single, however, "L'Amour En Privè," Serge Gainsbourg handled production chores with musical directors J.C. Vannier and Georges Moustaki.
