The core, and only constant during the five year career of Sydney band The Numbers was the brother and sister team of Chris and Annalisse Morrow. In Chris, they had an excellent songwriter and inventive guitarist and, in Annalisse an equally accomplished musician and a striking focal point. Over the course of 3 years, they released one EP, six singles and two LP's. Many will remember them from their numerous Countdown appearances and their first two singles, "The Modern Song" and "Five Letter Word" and their self-titled debut LP. However, there's a whole lot more to their story. Although they reached their commercial peak early, they continued to release excellent material - four more singles and a neglected second album. Because of this, many did not get to hear some of their best material.

This October, Simply Red will release Remixed Vol. 1 (1985-2000) a two-CD collection of their hit singles in remixed form from the band’s first 15 years.

The songwriting was done by Balrogh in close colaboration with Tetzel, who directed the songs and wrote all the lyrics. It is no coincidence that the choruses of a lot of songs draw you in and make you sing along and pump your fist! For the sound, the band decided to go a bit more in-your-face: Big guitars, strong and harsh growls and thundering drums.

Animal Logic (1988-1991) was a band formed by Stewart Copeland (drummer of The Police) and Stanley Clarke (renowned jazz bassist). Deborah Holland auditioned for the band and became the lead vocalist and songwriter. The band released 2 albums; neither had a name but became known as Animal Logic I (with 3 Dalmatian dogs on the cover) and Animal Logic II (with 3 polar bears on the cover). They toured in Brazil, North America and Europe, released 2 videos to MTV and VH-I (for the songs “Spy in the House of Love” and “Rose Colored Glasses”), and appeared on the David Letterman Show and the Tonight Show.

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of an official re-mastered edition of the debut album by legendary Welsh rock band Sassafras, "Expecting Company". Formed in South Wales in 1970, the band signed to George Martin’s AIR Productions in 1972 with a line-up of Terry Bennett (Vocals), Dai Shell (Lead Guitar), Ralph Evans (Lead Guitar), Ricky John Holt (Bass) and Congo Jones (Drums). Utilising to great effect the twin lead guitar approach of Dai Shell and Ralph Evans, Sassafras released their debut album on Polydor Records in 1973. One of the great unsung rock albums of the early 1970s, "Expecting Company" has been newly re-mastered from the original master tapes and includes both sides of a rare single as bonus tracks. This Esoteric Recordings reissue restores the original album artwork and includes a new essay.

A groovy groovy electric set from Hammond giant Shirley Scott - a set that really kicks things up in the rhythm department, in a way ties the album as much to Atlantic Records soul of the 60s as it does to some of Scott's earlier work for Prestige! There's a great pulse at the bottom of the tunes - thanks to guitar work from Billy Butler and Eric Gale, and some sweet electric bass from Chuck Rainey - working here in the rhythm section with Jimmy Johnson on drums and Ralph MacDonald on congas. The combination of all these great players on one date really makes things cook - and Shirley's organ sounds groovier than ever - so much so, she also seems free to try out a few sounds here on piano and ondoline as well. Things take on a nicely trippy feel at times, and a funky groove at others.

Formed in 1968 in Gloucestershire by John Coppin (Guitar, Vocals) and Dave Bell (Guitar, Vocals), by 1971 the band evolved into a quartet with the arrival of Al Fenn on Lead Guitar and Mandolin and Geoff March on Violin and Cello. The group signed to Vertigo records in 1973 and recorded their debut album with notable guests such as Timi Donald on Drums and B.J. Cole on Dobro. A unique fusion of Folk and Progressive influences, "Say Hello To The Band” has long been sought by collectors as a vinyl artefact. This new CD edition is re-mastered from the original tapes and adds both sides of Decameron’s first single as bonus tracks. This Esoteric Recordings reissue includes a booklet that fully restores all original album artwork and features a new essay.

Ask anyone about electronic music and chances are you get names like Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Vangelis, Kraftwerk and Jean-Michel Jarre thrown at you. Obviously there's plenty more where they came from but to the untrained listener these are the major names linked with synthesizers, samplers, rhythm composers and above all atmosphere!
It's that particular atmosphere which forms the backbone for the third CD by Belgian electronic musician Frank Quasar. Aptly titled Atmos, the seven tracks take us on an hour long journey through various themes and indeed… atmospheres. So far Frank has released an album every two years (not counting his vinyl output Dusk from 1988 and his presence on the Ambient Nation sampler) and each time he goes further and further, getting better and better. The sleeve design is a delight whilst the music is yet again professional in every aspect…
He uses the classic electronic components, juggles with analogue and digital equipment and doesn't fear to throw in some rhythmic patterns to create something new and exciting.

Shelby Lynne's early career on Epic Records frustrated fans of her rich, soulful contralto because, though she placed three albums and nine singles in the country charts between 1988 and 1991, she never scored the big hit needed to propel her to star status. Not all collections are hit oriented, of course, but Epic Recordings makes a particular point of second-guessing Epic's singles choices.

Those who have had the good fortune of hearing live performances as conducted by Bernard Labadie with his usual ensembles Les Violons du Roy and La Chappelle de Québec will understand why this radiant recording is so special. Labadie is an authentic period devotee and his intensive scholarship and gifts as a conductor pull us back in time to the purity of sound surrounding these compositions.

This CD contains four compositions by the Icelandic composer Haukur Tómasson. The pieces are Concerto for Violin and Chamber Ensemble, Annual Ring, Spiral and Stemma. Sigrún Eðvaldsdóttir plays the solo violin in the Concerto and the ensemble is conducted by Guðmundur Óli Gunnarsson.
