The late chamber recordings made by the great Catalan cellist with longstanding friends and colleagues, including two versions of Beethoven's 'Ghost' Trio, the 1956 'Hommage à Pablo Casals' LP, and the Schubert String Quintet with the Végh Quartet. Includes CD premieres. In September 1958, the 81-year-old Pablo Casals took part in the (now annual) Beethovenfest held in the composer's home city of Bonn. His music-making had lost none of its carefree spirit, and Philips quickly issued these live recordings of Beethoven sonatas and piano trios made in the intimate space of the music room of the Beethoven House. They preserve the cellist on liberated and exhilarating form in a transcription of the Horn Sonata and the Second and Fifth Cello Sonatas, accompanied by the Polish pianist who had been a chamber-music partner since the 1930s, MieczysLaw Horszowski.

The Church's blend of Byrds-like jangle, soaring melodies, Psychedelic dynamics and an almost Goth-like hint of darkness endeared them to the Alternative/New Wave crowd through most of the '80s and beyond. Boardwalk Empire Volume 1 Music From The HBO Original Series features music from the first two seasons of the show. The Prohibition-era soundtrack, produced by the series music supervisor Randall Poster, is comprised of original music from the 1920s exclusively rerecorded by top contemporary artists such as Regina Spektor, Loudon Wainwright III, Martha Wainwright, Catherine Russell, Nellie McKay and Leon Redbone. Regina Spektor s version of "My Man, " was originally made popular in 1921 by Ziegfeld Follies singer Fanny Brice. The show features famous, real-life musical characters from the time period such as vaudeville star Eddie Cantor played by Stephen DeRosa and singer/actress Sophie Tucker played by Hairspray s Kathy Brier. Each actor/singer contributes to Boardwalk Empire Volume 1 Music From The HBO Original Series contemporary versions of the songs made popular by these 1920s musicians. What s more, current day New York jazz band Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks appear regularly on the series as the house band at Babette s Nightclub, and the group contributes five modern-day renditions of popular songs from the era.

Director Sacha Gervasi's 2012 Alfred Hitchcock biopic was less of a proper biography and more of a breakdown of the events leading up to the release of 1959's Psycho. Composer Danny Elfman's elegant score reflects that sense of minutia, offering up a scant 38 minutes of material, much of which clocks in at under a minute. Elfman's signature blend of dread, whimsy, and mischief serves the tone of the story well, and while it may not be as stocked with memorable themes as some of his better-known works, it dutifully conveys the pathos, unpredictability, and humor of its source material.

If this had only been Kronikles, 1963-1972 instead. It's the same problem with all the '60s greats who aren't named Neil Young. Their work rises like comets shot out of cannons in the early, R&B/Merseybeat beginnings, soaring ever higher toward the more expansive psychedelic era. Then they peak, level off around Woodstock, begin to descend in the earliest '70s, and then they plummet with a thud and a plop. To be fair, the Kinks made the tidiest, least offensive mess of it, and thus you could feel affection for them even when they sucked. Like, say, John Lennon or Pete Townshend, Ray Davies and his husky, Mickey Mouse-voiced sibling were capable of the odd later-'70s (or even later) gems that, if nothing like their fabled past, would remind of their prodigious talents in their early-twenties prime. Nevertheless, over a 35-year chronological presentation, the helpless spiral toward crap city is inescapable. All the more so with the junior Davies, who had such a smaller catalog to start. CD one plucks out the one or two songs Dave sang on each Kinks LP – blues-stomp covers, a few melodies Ray wrote for him, and some of Dave's earliest, best tunes. Most significantly, there's two huge vault-uncovered treats for '60s Kinks heads: a rare 1963 acetate of an unknown Dave number, the early-Beatles-like "I Believed You," the band's earliest unearthed recording from its days as the Ravens; and a 1969 Dave-alone eight-track, "Climb Your Wall," a nice piece of post-Dylan, post-Arthur happy shambles.

The initial "promotional tour" was extended, and finally lasted almost two years, ending in 1989 after playing around 197 concerts to about 5.5 million people in total, including 3 dates at Madison Square Garden (5–7 October 1987) and 2 nights at Wembley Stadium (5–6 August 1988). The tour took Pink Floyd to various exotic locations they had never played before such as shows in the forecourt of the Palace of Versailles, Moscow's Olympic Stadium, and Venice, despite fears and protests that the sound would damage the latter city's foundations.

Jan Mikael Sørensen met Håvard Enge in 1978. At the age of 12 they got obsessed with music, and albums like The Hurting by Tears for Fears, The Colour of Spring by Talk Talk and Skylarking by XTC persuaded them to learn to play instruments. In 1986 the band Crazy Dogs (later Cerumen) saw the light of day. The band included Håvards brother Kolbjørn (now drummer/vocalist, Nan Madol).

By the time Estamos Ai was released by Odeon, Leny Andrade was a seasoned nightclub performer with at least two albums to her credit. A prótége of pop singer Ivon Curi, Andrade soon distinguished herself as one of Brazil's most accomplished jazz vocalists. Sometimes given to scat-singing with unaffected ease, she has been compared with her contemporary Elza Soares and the divine Flora Purim as well as North American jazzwomen Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O'Day. This pleasant and relaxing album was the result of Andrade's collaboration with Regina Werneck, Mauricio Einhorn, Durval Ferreira, and guitarist Geraldinho Vespar. It will satisfy anyone with a predilection for '60s jazz samba and bossa nova.

When Burak Çebi put together the repertoire for his album "Bright Spots", his first intention was not to introduce the public to as many different composers from Turkey as possible. Instead, he was guided solely by his personal taste in the selection of pieces and chose works that he most wanted to record. Although he would describe himself and his "artistic existence" as European in many respects, his view of the music of his home country is by no means marked by Orientalism. Rather, it is a search for his roots, which are also always connected to the future. After working intensively on the conception of this album, Burak Çebi discovered more and more his own way of composing, ultimately telling his story as a person and as an artist.
