Soul/funk/disco band from Miami, Florida. Formed by producer/songwriter Willie Clarke in 1974, the original line-up comprised of Andrew Curran (guitar), Willie Jackson (bass), Robert Moore (vocals), George Perry (bass), Freddie Scott (drums), Warren Thompson (guitar), Bobby Williams (organ) and Clarke himself on percussion. The band released a few albums but mainly served as the in-house band for T.K. Records. With the demise of that record label in the early 1980's, Miami was disbanded.

Recorded in the same year as the Brothers and Sisters album, this solo debut release is a beautiful amalgam of R&B, folk, and gospel sounds, with the best singing on any of Gregg Allman's solo releases. He covers his own "Midnight Rider" in a more mournful, dirge-like manner, and Jackson Browne's "These Days" gets its most touching and tragic-sounding rendition as well. Although Chuck Leavell and Jaimoe are here, there's very little that sounds like the Allman Brothers Band – prominent guitars, apart from a few licks by Tommy Talton (Cowboy, ex-We the People), are overlooked in favor of gospel-tinged organ and choruses behind Allman's soulful singing.

Beethoven's Triple Concerto works best when played like a svelte, bubbly concerto grosso rather than middle-period Beethoven pretending to be Elgar. For that to happen, you need a firm, decisive podium master who keeps everything clear and moving ahead. And you need three virtuoso soloists with rhythmic élan, beautiful tone, and radar-like ensemble sensitivity. Enter Zinman, Bronfman, Shaham, Mørk, and Zurich. No, that's not a law office, but rather the musician participants, who embody all the aforementioned criteria and come up with the best-integrated, least-platitudinous, most consistently characterized and caringly detailed Beethoven Triple Concerto ever committed to disc.

National Socialism had devised its own notion of the value of German art and culture. This was ruthlessly put into practice when the Nazis took over power in 1933. The more than 175 "degenerate" recorded musical items in this extraordinary 10-CD box set, 'Forbidden But Not Forgotten', relate to the shocking consequences due to that "cleansing". The burning of the Reichstag (7th April) provided the pretext for the prosecution of all who held other political opinions, for the burning of books (10th May) whose authors were on the index of disfavoured and banned writers, for the law that amended entry to the civil service (7th April) that excluded all non-Aryans and led to wholesale dismissals of Jews, especially in orchestras, the administration, among singers, conductors and instrumentalists. By means of the exhibitions "Degenerate Art" (Munich, 1937) and "Degenerate Music" (Düsseldorf, 1938) art and artists who were now to have no place in Nazi Germany were pilloried.

The Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) are an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1970 by songwriters-multi-instrumentalists Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood with drummer Bev Bevan. Their music is characterised by a fusion of Beatlesque pop, classical arrangements and futuristic iconography. After Wood's departure in 1972, Lynne became the band's sole leader, arranging and producing every album while writing nearly all of their original material. For their initial tenure, Lynne, Bevan and keyboardist Richard Tandy were the group's only consistent members.

In the '60s and '70s, drummer/percussionist Willie Bobo easily crossed over from bop to boogaloo to salsa, influencing musicians like Santana, who recorded a version of Bobo's "Evil Ways." After Bobo died in 1983 at the young age of 49, his son, Eric, discovered unreleased demo tapes that his father had recorded between 1970 and 1976. Lost and Found sees their release 30 years later. With production help from Eric's DJ friend, Mario Caldato Jr., these twelve tracks feature Bobo supported by keyboards, wah-wah guitar, bass, and horns. Longtime Bobo fans will dig these swinging versions of "Broasted or Fried," "Soul Foo Young," and "Ci Ci," with Bobo's zesty, beat-box vocal percussion. Bobo's love for Brazilian music is evident on his heartfelt renditions of Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Dindi" and Eumir Deadato's "Little Tear," complete with Bobo's earthy rap/monologue. Bobo doesn't solo that much and personnel information on the band is not provided, but this music still highlights Bobo at his sizzling and syncopated best. –Eugene Holley Jr.

2016 two CD set. Singer, songwriter, actor, producer, record label owner and general good ol' boy, Hoyt Axton was perhaps best-known for writing such massive pop hits as 'Joy To The World' and 'Never Been To Spain'. His songs were hits for acts as diverse as the Kingston Trio ('Greenback Dollar'), Ringo Starr ('No, No Song') and Steppenwolf ('The Pusher', 'Snow Blind Friend'). In a recording career that spanned close on forty years, his repertoire covered early blues, folk tunes, jazzy-flavored songs, humorous ditties, kiddies songs and country music-both modern and traditional. This collection of self-penned songs and material from both contemporary and veteran songwriters demonstrates perfectly how well respected he was as a singer and songwriter.

In search of a new season to conquer (after a long run of successful A Winter's Solstice recordings), Windham Hill took aim at summer in 1997. The first Summer Solstice disc isn't exactly top-down cruising music; it's more of a back-porch soundtrack suitable for watching fireflies or for mulling the fading light of a languid summer's day. A few pieces (violinist Tracy Silverman's take on Vivaldi; pianist Liz Story's "The Promise") feel a bit weighty for the theme here, but the disc is well stocked with compensatory highlights. Among them are the intelligent, softly propulsive melody strung together by Paul McCandless (oboe) and bassist Michael Manring ("In Our Jasmine Days"); David Arkenstone's twinkling, mandolin-centered dance in the sun ("Companions"); some classic Will Ackerman ("Incondizionatamente") on parlor guitar; a charming, slowly unfolding melody found in "Summer Star" by harpist Lisa Lynne; Story's lovely, ruminating "Out of Time"; a sunny frolic on harmonica by George Winston; and a hushed, jazz-inclined medley of Beach Boys tunes by pianist Philip Aaberg and guitarist Scott Mathews. –Terry Wood

Disco may have been a dirty word as the 70's came to a close but during the 80's its influence on much of this selection helped create some of the greatest dance music recorded. As a poet and philsopher once said, 'Lets Groove Tonight'…..
