Platinum Hook was a slick R&B/Funk combo who released three albums on Motown between 1978 and 1983. Having signed to the label for their debut eponymous release in 1978, Platinum Hook offered up a smooth and engaging R&B/Funk sound that more than matched their label mates and other rivals of the time. Platinum Hook opens with the tight club groove Bittersweet, a horn and synth led track that introduces the groups lead vocalists Tina Renee Stanford and Stephen Daniels to blistering effect. Track 2 is an excellent cover of Shotgun's mid-tempo funk jam from the previous year, Hotline. ''Til I Met You and Lover What You've Done (To Me) are both smooth soul ballads that still bring the funk into the rhythms and help round out the albums overall sound. Standing On The Verge (Of Getting It On), a cover of the Funkadelic classic, can hold its head up high to the original.

"Aretha - Live at Fillmore West" is a live album by American singer Aretha Franklin released on May 19, 1971 by Atlantic Records. Franklin played a Fender Rhodes piano on four cuts, including "Eleanor Rigby", "Spirit in the Dark", "Don't Play That Song" and "Dr. Feelgood". Backing Franklin was King Curtis' band, the Kingpins, featuring Cornell Dupree on guitar, Bernard Purdie on drums, and Jerry Jemmott on bass, Billy Preston on organ, King Curtis on saxophone, together with the Memphis Horns. In addition, there is a guest duet vocal by Ray Charles on "Spirit in the Dark". The album reached #1 on the Billboard R&B album chart on June 19, 1971.

It is a curious fact that, although the saxophone is often thought of as being a 'French' or 'American' instrument, Eastern European composers were among the earliest to use the saxophone in scores of great quality. Shostakovich and Prokofiev both used the saxophone in orchestral and ballet works during the 1930s-40s, and Glazunov wrote one of the major concertos for the instrument in 1934. With the aid of Ravel, the saxophone is perhaps best known as an orchestral instrument from the famous solo – 'The Old Castle' – in his 1922 orchestration of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. So, the saxophone and Eastern European music go back quite a long way together. Fairy Tales is an exploration of some of the very fine recital works for saxophone and piano by composers from Eastern Europe. Today, there is a rich repertoire of original and arranged works from which a saxophonist can choose. Beyond the geographic theme, the selected pieces also share other affinities: strands of poetic storytelling, references to folk-music, and magical fairy-tale imagery. The booklet contains informative notes from Kyle Horch on all of the pieces featured on this release.

Yaoundé, in the 1970´s, was a buzzing place. Every neighbourhood of Cameroon´s capital, no matter how dodgy, was filled with music spots but surprisingly there were no infrastructure to immortalise those musical riches. The country suffered from a serious lack of proper recording facilities, and the process of committing your song to tape could become a whole adventure unto itself. Of course, you could always book the national broadcasting company together with a sound engineer, but this was hardly an option for underground artists with no cash. But luckily an alternative option emerged in form of an adventist church with some good recording equipment and many of the artists on this compilation recorded their first few songs, secretly, in these premises thanks to Monsieur Awono, the church engineer.

Above the album worked the VA - Nu Urban Jazz Vol.3 (2021) , and his release took place on 2021. The album has got songs with a total duration of more than an hour. A compilation is a compilation of original music.

Owen Rees leads early-music consort Contrapunctus alongside The Choir of The Queen’s College, Oxford in performances of John Taverner’s masterwork, the Missa Gloria tibi trinitas. This Sony UK entry in the Original Albums Classics series contains five Boz Scaggs recordings; one of which is a true classic, two more which should be, and two more middling albums. These are the remastered versions of these recordings. The inarguable standout in the pack is the legendary Silk Degrees album from 1976, which includes, as bonus cuts, three live versions of tunes on the album’s track list: “What Can I Say,” It’s Over,” and “Jump Street.” Two very important recordings in Scaggs’ catalog that are included here both preceded Silk Degrees: Moments, issued in 1971, reveals (whether he admits it or not) Van Morrison’s influence on the singer and songwriter…

Since the "Love Songs" type of compilation has become so common (especially in the run-up to Valentine's Day), it's worth noting that this one, dedicated to the Monument Records recordings of Roy Orbison from the first half of the 1960s, is a cut above the usual. True, it's a discount-priced release running only about the length of an old LP (36-plus minutes). But compilation producer Nick Shaffran has made a good choice of Orbison hits with romantic themes (eschewing rockers like "Oh, Pretty Woman"), including nine of the singer's 19 Top 40 hits for Monument, along with five good B-sides and LP tracks such as Orbison covers of "Love Hurts" and "All You Have to Do Is Dream."
