From ' Introduction ' Hirofumi's guitar and Masafumi's keyboard solos are so bluesy that we cannot help foreseeing the next explosion. Yep, exactly ' The Day Before Eruption '! Maki's dark but aggressive voices can encourage us against the eruption or collapse of the town where we are. In this album, each song should be a part of one story titled " An Entombed Town "…

Pangée are a Canadian 5 piece instrumental progressive rock outfit which play in the territory of King Crimson and Anekdoten. Monster progressive jams which combine amazing bass/keyboard interplay in a heavy mellotron filled environment. Drums are nice and complex and really fit this music to perfection. Guitars playing is very sophisticated and at times remind of the fret work of Mr. Fripp. "Hymnemonde" is essentially 3 long epic tracks which are given lots of space to develop many truely progressive moments.

Scarlatti published just 30 of his 550 or so keyboard sonatas. They appeared in London in 1738/9 under the title Essercizi per gravicembalo ('Keyboard exercises'). In the preface he warned players: "Do not expect, whether you be amateur or professional, to find any profound intention in these compositions, but rather an ingenious jesting with art." Scarlatti's sonatas are perhaps most famous for their flamboyant Hispanic touches, with hints of the rhythms and melodies of Spanish folk music. (The composer, born in Naples, spent 25 years in Madrid.) During his lifetime his music was not widely circulated and it's impact and influence was largely restricted to composers like Sebastián de Albero and Antonio Soler who, like Scarlatti himself, had connections with the royal household of Spain.

As part of the series Musique française : Découvertes 1890-1939, with pianist Stéphane Lemelin, ATMA Classique presents the Piano Quintets by French composers Louis Vierne and Gabriel Pierné. Pierné left 20 or so works of chamber music, including the Quintette en trois parties Op. 41, in E minor, for piano and strings, composed in 1916-17. This piece was dedicated to Gabriel Fauré, and premiered at the Société nationale de musique on February 22, 1919 by the Quatuor Bastide, with Gabriel Pierné on piano. In 1918, devastated and enraged by the death of his son, Louis Vierne wrote to his friend the organist Maurice Blazy: "I'm developing, as an ex-voto [a votive offering], a quintet of very large scale through which will flow abundantly the breath of my tender affection and the tragic fate of my child.

Although Joel Dorn's 32 Jazz label mostly concentrates on repackaging reissues from the Muse catalog, there have been some important discoveries. This 1998 CD has a previously unreleased Sonny Stitt club appearance that took place in San Francisco's Keystone Korner in September 1981. It is a special all-star concert in which Stitt splits his time between tenor and alto and is joined by pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Herbie Lewis, drummer Billy Higgins, and (on a few numbers) vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, altoist Richie Cole, and John Handy on alto and tenor. Stitt, a master of the bebop vocabulary, was not an innovator, but he was a fiery competitor who could blow most musicians off the stand when he chose to. In this case, he had a lot of respect for Cole and Handy, but still played at his best, just in case…

"Love Language" was the eighth album by R&B/Soul crooner Teddy Pendergrass. It was his first record for Asylum Records after being a longtime artist on Philadelphia International Records. It did much better on the Billboard 200 than his last two records, peaking at #38. He had not reached the top 40 on the album charts since 1981's It's Time for Love. The album was composed and produced by Michael Masser, with the exception of the track You're My Choice Tonight (Choose Me) (#15 R&B chart, November 3, 1984), which was produced by Luther Vandross and featured Cissy Houston on background vocals and as "Solo Female Voice".

The late LESLIE WEST was one of the great, BIG characters of American rock and roll. His passing in December, 2020, at the age of seventy-five from cardiac arrest, drew to a close a career that embraced vertiginous highs and deep troughs. Throughout it all, though, West remained garrulous, loud and unafraid to voice his opinion. West is featured on two releases from the Voiceprint division of North London indie Floating World Records – the first, entitled ‘Five Originals’, features five full length albums on three CDs, and includes his album ‘The Great Fatsby’, which is unique insofar as it features ‘High Roller’, a very rare co-write with West and the ‘Glimmer Twins’ themselves - Mick Jagger and Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones. Jagger even puts in a shift on rhythm guitar, proving that he is equally as talented at the ‘Keef chord’ as the Human Riff himself. The Leslie West Band also featured West’s long-time drumming foil, Corky Laing, as well as British guitarist Mick Jones, who would soon quit to form the multi-million selling Foreigner.

Lazuli are a French rock ensemble, currently recognized as an arousing, enchanting and vigorous prog rock value. Formed in 1998, their musical debut was tough and unoriginal, but in the next years, revealing a promising number of shows and a music undergoing a quality transition, they earned the appreciation those bands capable of making unusual, very pleasant or promptly fresh music usually receive. In their music, Lazuli do a relaxed blend of prog rock (classic, retro and modern spots altogether), instrumental songs and alternative/warm world music - the edge between pop and rock being, mostly, a good one. Numb folk, heavy beats or rich samples are fairly used. Their artistic top quality is not so much the high-striking, elaborate or attractive tones and prog-generating sensations, as the inspired songs and instrumental intermissions…

Chips wore many professional hats during his almost 50-year career. Musician, label-owner, producer and studio owner are other areas at which he excelled.

Anchored in an optimistic synthesis of classical, folk, rock and electronic music, "With Malice Toward None" elevates the idea of what it means to be human in the 21st century. Pamela Z artfully deconstructs her folk rock heroes while paying homage to youthful nostalgia and childhood songcraft, while Christopher Theofanidis and Mark Wingate partner to craft a jaggedly ethereal adaptation of poet Samuel Beckett’s haunting final masterpiece.

Michael Naura (producer): "I have to admit it: I am a fan of Swing. Those concerts in which Armenian goatherders and a Berlin saxophonist throw phrases back and forth to each other, are alien to me. I feel closer to a trio of Hampton, Tatum and Rich. And my friend Wolfgang Schlueter (all of the world´s greatest vibraphonists shine through his playing, even Lionel Hampton) gives me the chance to answer the following "Tolstoy-esce" question: "How much Swing does jazz need?" The Swing Kings give the answer:
One day I announced: "OK, we’re off to the club "Birdland"! The NDR is making a recording there!" That was September 12, 1996. One of those nights! The trio was nostalgic to their finger tips…

A blurb on the back cover of Underground Masters' reissue of Krzysztof Klenczon's 1971 epic Trzy Korony proclaims it "Probably the best Polish 70's rock album!!," and without a Ph.D. in Eastern European psychedelia, it's impossible to confirm or deny such hyperbole. It's equally difficult to find fault with the record itself: a wild and wooly monument to acid-fuzz excess, Trzy Korony is all the more remarkable given that it was created under Communist rule. Klenczon's Beatlesque melodies, mind-warping guitar solos, and kaleidoscopic arrangements are the very essence of the anarchy Communism sought to extinguish.

Levy and Hrachya Avenesyan decided to put their time in Lockdown to good use by recording a program of works by both composers and turning their Brussels apartment into a recording studio. The result is this striking and dramatic album. The music of both composers contains emotions that many of us will have experienced over the past year. Fear, tension, despair, hope, joy - the emotional range explored by the works on this recording is wide ranging but overall, the mood is of hope triumphing. Prokofiev composed his sonatas under Soviet repression, and Piazzolla's tangos have the unmistakable bitter-sweet melancholy of the Argentinian soul underlying the sultry and sensual tango.
