Can an acoustic-oriented, essentially straight-ahead jazz album be influenced by what has transpired in the electric jazz realm? Are fusion and pop-jazz/crossover relevant to acoustic post-bop? On White Nights, Ivan Paduart shows that the answer to both questions is "absolutely." Forming a trio with upright bassist Philippe Aerts and drummer Hans Van Oosterhout, the Belgian jazzman sticks to the acoustic piano and favors what is essentially straight-ahead post-bop on this 1995 date. Paduart's love of the acoustic pianism of Bill Evans and Keith Jarrett, among others, is evident on charming pieces like "Steps in the Snow" and "Fairy Tale," but when subtle pop-jazz overtones make their way to "Ecoline" (which features harmonica great Toots Thielemans), "Heartsong," and other lyrical offerings.

Released in 1997, Violent Machine is the 10th recording by virtuoso guitarist/keyboardist Tony MacAlpine. This record was a musical departure for MacAlpine, as he explored a different direction, incorporating more of a fusion jazz sound into his metal/neo-classical contexts, but all the while capturing his trademark guitar style. Anyone who has heard MacAlpine play live knows what an incredible keyboardist he is – and this is the first record that Tony has released that displays his virtuosity on what is his primary instrument. The CD was recorded in the summer of 1996 in Los Angeles and features Mike Teranna on Drums (Yngwie Malmsteen, Rage), Kevin Chown on bass and MacAlpine on guitar and keyboards.

Wie schwierig es ist, einfach, aber gehaltvoll zu komponieren, musste allerdings auch Telemann erfahren, der in seiner Vorrede bekennt, dass er die Arbeit nur „mit sehr viel Schweisse“ zuwege gebracht habe. Erhöht wurde die Schwierigkeit durch die Aufgabe, daß die Melodie zu allen Strophen passen soll.

The companion piece to The Flying Teapot, Angel's Egg is not your usual progressive rock album. Jones arranged and conducted three recording sessions during September 1956, each with a different line-up, from a nonet to a fifteen piece big band. Musicians on the album include Art Farmer, Phil Woods, Lucky Thompson, Hank Jones, Paul Chambers, Milt Jackson, Art Pepper, Zoot Sims, and Herbie Mann.
