The goal of Babylon ORCHESTRA, since its founding in 2016, has been to create a fresh sound that speaks to Berlin’s multicultural society. Conversations between the traditional sounds of the Middle East and the musical cultures of Europe emerge during performance, all while keeping the focus on urban elements of the Berlin music scene.

In 1950, Ian Thomas was born in Hamilton, Ontario. Once he began to play piano at the age of six Thomas fell in love with the world of music. He later learned the guitar. By 1969 he was in a folk group called Tranquility Base which began to tour across Canada. They had a #3 hit in Hamilton in 1970 called “If You’re Looking”. This led to an album, but further success eluded them. Thomas became a producer at the CBC. By 1973 he got his own record deal with GRT Records and released “Painted Ladies”. The song climbed to #9 in Vancouver and #34 on the Billboard Hot 100. His self-titled album went Gold. Thomas won the 1974 Juno Award for Most Promising Male Vocalist and toured with April Wine. He got exposure on a number of TV variety shows in Canada which included both his musical and comedic talents.

The old man in rags presents himself to the court, and achieves his revenge.

Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy was the last great 19th century composer whose works were not completely listed. In the Mendelssohn anniversary year of 2009 this loophole has been closed thanks to the publishing of the Leipzig Edition of the works of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy by the Saxon Academy of Sciences in Leipzig. It was only in 2007/2008, as a result of research work that the musical public first gained awareness of among other pieces, 61 of a total of 115 songs composed for voice and piano. The "forgotten" songs included in this CD date from throughout the composer’s entire creative period, and demonstrate superbly the many facets, colours and richness of ideas of his musical creations.

Imagine yourself listening to a piano trio, alone in the middle of the night as you sip your favorite drink - Tsuyoshi Yamamoto Trio offers just such a mood. Yamamoto is highly musical and his expressions natural, neither overly technical nor overly serious, and his performance is relaxed and melodious. This album, now on SACD, is his second, after the debut of "Midnight Sugar", and it won the 'Best Engineering Award' from the Jazz Disk Awards in 1974 when it was originally released on TBM Records, one of Japan's oldest and most prestigious jazz labels.

From January to December 1974, pianist Tsuyoshi Yamamoto and his trio performed daily in a jazz club called Misty that had a full-size New York Steinway concert grand. Producer of Three Blind Mice Takeshi Fujii heard him there, fell in love, and made his hugely successful debut album Midnight Sugar in the spring of the same year. Yamamoto had already recorded his second album Misty, and his year at Misty was winding down. For the third album to be recorded in a year, Fujii decided to capture the trio live in their "everyday setting."

The Back Porch Majority was an American folk music group founded by Randy Sparks in 1963. It was intended to be a rehearsal space for The New Christy Minstrels, another group Sparks had established in 1961, but it ended up becoming successful on its own. The group released six albums, appeared on several TV shows and was chosen to provide entertainment at the White House in 1965.

The Lonesome Rhodes were an American singer duo of the 1960s. Sandy and Donna Rhodes were discovered in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1965 and were signed for RCA Records. This debut full-lenght album have been released in 1967 as RCA Victor # LPS-3759.
