Sue-Ying Koang graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin, the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA (USA) in violin as well as from the Haute École de Musique de Genève in baroque violin and music pedagogy.

The works of Jean-Paul Liardet are simply unique in their diversity. His musical language is strikingly daring, rich, and of overwhelming expression. Written over the large period of 51 years between 1967 and 2018, the piano sonatas reveal the full range of emotions, events and stylistic influences that shaped the composer's musical world.

This program is conceived as a journey through works of various aesthetics and rhetoric, but united by their theatricality and by a common question of instrumental poetics: how to think, compose and play the trumpet in a chamber musician spirit, dressing it for a role that has often been foreign to him?

Louis Charles Auguste Claude Trenet, known as Charles Trenet, was a French singer and songwriter. He was most famous for his recordings from the late 1930s until the mid-1950s, though his career continued through the 1990s. In an era in which it was unusual for singers to write their own material, Trenet wrote prolifically and declined to record any but his own songs.

Following two critically acclaimed albums, the Elton John championed, Welsh multi-instrumentalist and producer The Anchoress (aka Catherine Anne Davies) releases an album of modern re-workings, Versions via the recently relaunched Drowned in Sound label. Compiling 10 re-imaginings of alternative songs by the likes of Depeche Mode, The Cure, Nirvana, Nico and Halsey, all produced and mixed by Davies, Versions is a Cat Power-like collection of songs. The record includes a take on Manic Street Preachers’ ‘This Is Yesterday’ which she performed with the band at Isle of Wight and Glastonbury 2023.

From long form to short form: that seems to be the voyage Jean-Nicolas Diatkine leads us in his new CD, from Sonata no.3 to the 24 Preludes. Yet this impression is partially deceptive. Granted, these preludes are miniatures, however they also form a whole twice as long as the sonata, when considered in their totality.

Ronald Stevenson (1928–2015) is best remembered for his huge output of music for the piano, an instrument he played with a rare understanding of tonal colour. It was thus entirely within character that he responded enthusiastically to the opportunity to explore the musical possibilities of the accordion, most impressively in a ‘Dance Poem’ of some scale. Stevenson was also an inveterate transcriber, producing hundreds of piano versions of pieces written for other forces.
