Beethoven will always be renowned for his symphonies and concertos, but no collection of his orchestral works would be complete without the overtures and incidental music. The remarkable range of these works is demonstrated by the majestic ceremonial overture The Consecration of the House that invokes the style of Handel, whom Beethoven considered 'the master of us all'. It contrasts with the resolute heroism and high tragedy of Coriolan and the remarkable cantata Meeresstille und gluckliche Fahrt, which cast its spell on Mendelssohn.

After inking a new deal with Epic Records, Mariah the Scientist has dropped her first album through the label, To Be Eaten Alive. For the Atlanta-born rapper, who released her debut album in 2019, the new record feels like it’s been a long time coming. Composer Sophie Dupuis presents dazzling, profoundly eclectic compositions inspired by visual art on COMME BON LUI SEMBLE. Dupuis’ musical language is measured, almost minimalist, but the colors she weaves into bright tapestries of sound certainly aren’t. Pop culture or high culture, she draws inspiration from numerous sources — leading to compositions that are at once highly abstract, yet highly descriptive. It’s a tightrope to walk, and at dizzying heights, but thankfully, Dupuis is not susceptible to musical vertigo.

Jacob Mühlrad enters his own approach to the intimate and spiritual world of sleep – he states: “Above all, sound plays an important role in my dreams”. ‘REMS’ marks the first recording of a symphonic work by Jacob Mühlrad – the piece interprets melodies from Jewish prayers and lullabies and is also inspired by elements of Indian ragas and quarter-tone technique.

The spiritual sequel to Dante Carfagna's landmark black rock mix tape Chains and Black Exhaust, this 13 track compilation exhumes forgotten brilliance from the Afroamerican underground of the 1970s. Awash in fuzzed-out guitars, wah-wah pedals, lysergic-soaked grooves, and enough inflation depression to fill the tank of a shag wagon, If There’s Hell Below imagines a world where Hendrix lived and Funkadelic never crawled out of the garage.

Dutch pianist Marcel Worms has been performing his programme New Blues for Piano since 1997. Some 200 new blues pieces from around 50 different countries were commissioned for Worms for this project and this release features a selection from the most recent repertory of new blues (composed between 2011 and 2016) as well as pieces from the repertoire of the entire project that are most dear to Worms. The project highlights the significance of the blues in jazz and the pieces provide insight into what the blues mean to the contemporary composer.

Perfume Genius is the stage name for Seattle-based artist Mike Hadreas. This fourth full-length release for the indie singer-songwriter features 13 new ferocious and sophisticated tracks. Mike Hadreas and his collaborators blow through church music, makeout music, an array of the gothier radio popular formats, rhythm and blues, art pop, krautrock, queer soul, the RCA Studio B sound, and then also collect some of the sounds that only exist inside Freddy Krueger. "No Shape" was produced by Blake Mills, the man behind Alabama Shakes' Grammy Award winning album. He added precision and expansion.

2017 release from pianist Dan Tepfer - whom New York magazine dubbed "one of the moment's most adventurous and relevant musicians". "Eleven Cages" features Tepfer returning to the jazz piano trio format for the first time since the 2010 album "Five Pedals Deep". All Music Guide described the album as "inventive" and "intense", while Stereophile judged it simply "beautiful". For Eleven Cages, Tepfer sought to explore the concept of freedom within boundaries, as well as the malleability of time in music.

Øyvind Mathisen, only 26 years old, is a Norwegian trumpet player and composer from Oslo, recently graduated from the prestigious jazz-academy in Trondheim. The ensemble ØyvindLAND started up in 2017 and has developed its sound throughout their student years in Trondheim, along with Mathisen parallelly developing his compositional language. For three years now ØyvindLAND has been playing concerts all over Norway. After this period of playing live gigs the next natural step is unfolding now, as the band is releasing their album.

Promotional EP featuring four tracks. "Only the Young" is a song written by Jonathan Cain, Steve Perry and Neal Schon of the band Journey. Previously intended for Journey's 1983 album Frontiers, it was pulled from the album within days of recording in favor of songs "Back Talk" and "Troubled Child". It was then sold to the band Scandal, who released it in 1984 on their album Warrior, as the first commercially released version of the song. Journey's version was included on the soundtrack to the 1985 film Vision Quest, and was also released as a single which reached the top 10 of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
