The songs included on this album are entirely original, stereotype-breaking material developed jointly by both performers. The combination of jazz and electric guitar with a baroque harpsichord, as well as occasionally a clavichord and percussion instruments, sounds fresh and original. The use of electronic effects, preparation and amplification of the harpsichord, as well as the enrichment of the performance means with percussion techniques make each composition surprising with its dynamic and expressive scale, despite the modest instrumentation. When the devastation of the Thirty Years' War came to an end, Andreas Oswald the Younger, the son of a musician from Weimar, was just fourteen years old. When he died in 1665, he was barely more than thirty – an auspicious talent, relegated to the poorly-paid position of Eisenach city organist three years after the death of his art-loving Duke William IV of Saxe-Weimar. Although he died so young, Oswald had great potential. His surviving legacy includes eighteen sonatas for small instrumental ensembles of a maximum of four players, which are composed so skilfully and inventively that a wide expressive spectrum can be heard.

For his fourth CD for Mirare, brilliant pianist and composer Matan Porat chose these colorful pieces, spanning through four centuries of music from Couperin to Adès, displaying the different and similar approaches of composers to dance. Through this program, which he dedicates to his daughter Zoe, he invites us to celebrate the colorful world of childhood and to discover new facets of his talent, both as a performer and as a composer.
