Guitarist Otto Tolonen explores the performer’s roles and responsibilities in central European guitar repertoire written in the 1970s and 1980s. The programme includes tonal film music by Hans Werner Henze and the neocomplexity of Brian Ferneyhough.

The organ music of Maurice Duruflé is still very popular among organ music lovers, here in a very recent recording by a young virtuoso on a fabulous new instrument.

This recording is an element of the First Prize of the Michael Hill International Violin Competition, won by Suyeon Kang in 2015. The competition aims to recognise and encourage musical excellence and artistry, and to expand performance opportunities for young violinists from all over the world.

This recording pairs music for violin and piano by two young British composers who found themselves marooned in American exile by World War II: Richard Arnell (1917-2009) and Stanley Bate (1911-1959). Arnell’s music can be warmly lyrical and fiercely dramatic by turn, rather like its energetic and volatile composer. Stanley Bate was briefly a bright star on the musical scene, a brilliant pianist whose career was obscured from his British audience by the War and truncated by his early death. His First Violin Sonata has echoes of two of his teachers – Vaughan Williams and Hindemith.

This fruitful collaboration by three eminent chamber musicians, Christian Tetzlaff, Tanja Tetzlaff and Lars Vogt, brings together two Piano Trios by the Czech master, Antonín Dvorák (1841–1904). During the last eight years, artists forming this unique trio have recorded eight albums of chamber music for Ondine with great acclaim, including some of the Romantic standard works. These two chamber music masterpieces by Antonín Dvorák express great emotional depth and dark passion.

This programme has been nurtured from a selection of pieces inspired by English gardens, including Vaughan Williams’ lovely ‘Fantasia on Greensleeves,’ spreading out towards French and Italian repertoire that evokes pastoral settings of birdsong, fountains and springs, and topped with a light-hearted musical picnic dessert. Along the way we are treated to the exquisite melody of Elgar’s Chanson de matin and the nostalgic atmosphere of William Alwyn’s ‘Naiades.’ Nino Rota’s film music credits include The Godfather, and his sublime and festive Sonata adds a celebratory touch to the personal joy of these performers’ many years of musical friendship.

In this new album, Russian pianist Galina Chistiakova offers a program that spans Chopin’s entire compositional career, from the early Mazurkas, Opp. 6 and 7 to the pinnacle of extraordinary pianism that is the Barcarolle, Op. 60. Chistiakova chose to alternate each of the three major works she selected with a set of mazurkas, contrasting the magnificence of large forms with brief, often intimate pages.

“Music must not be the prerogative of the elite ; it belongs to everyone.” These words by Telemann have been my motto for a very long time. I like to think that music should be shared with as many people as possible, and it was in this spirit that I developed the concert program “One Last Time”, performed 33 times in Canada in the fall of 2017 and then on tour in Latin America in the winter of 2018. This album, recorded live at Quebec City’s Palais Montcalm in November 2017, features some of the most striking works that La Pietà has performed during its 21 years of existence. After the tightly focused pop of "Automatic" and "Transnational", it seems VNV Nation wanted to revisit their sound from 10-15 years ago. This album is very much in the "Futureperfect"/"Matter + Form"/"Judgment" vein 13 tracks, many skipable, leaving about 6 or 7 worth repeat listens. Standouts are "Armour", "When is the Future" and "Only Satellites". They can't keep trying to remake "Automatic", nor should they, but it seems losing a few tracks and tightening up the ones that are here would have resulted in a better final product. As it is, it feels like a bit of a step backward, which is an odd move for the crown princes of Futurepop.

The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound.

"The best sound around…the excitement of sound in motion" is what the album promises. It's half a decade after the RCA Stereo Action series, and Leo Addeo is still going strong. With only ten tunes, A Sound Spectacular in Total Dynamics is a little light, but Addeo fans will not be disappointed. All tracks are at least good, and "Ain't We Got Fun" is remarkable. While it must have been hopelessly square in 1968, there is a timelessness to these old standards. Freshness in the arrangements must be entirely the product of Addeo's "space-age" enthusiasm.

A girls singer-songwriter that fascinates a wide range from soft rock to girls pop and psychedelic fans. Although the talent of songwriting is not hesitant, somehow the album is only one of this. Swingin 's title track "Watch Me", cute soulful singing voice "Good Vibrations", small devil psychedelic "Psychedelic Wonder Why, I Guess?", An array of talented eyewear arrangements Psychopop "Jack and Jill" feels like, Jazz Classics "Shadrack" etc. Loading full of place!
