In the 1880s and 1890s, Romanticism blazed its last. Just as Brahms was writing his final works, wreathed in a twilit halo, the young Debussy began composing. Hence his early works were born in the nostalgic mists of a century that was drawing to a close; but the gigantic sketchbook that we are invited to leaf through here is also animated by the life force that was to lead Debussy's music to explore resolutely new musical territories, and to advance, in total freedom, towards sounds that had never been heard before.

Reflections marks the first recording on Decca Classics of Russian pianist Arseny Tarasevich-Nikolaev, second prize winner at both the 2013 Cleveland International Piano Competition and the 2016 Sydney International Piano Competition.

Anastasyia Petryshakwas born in Ukraine in 1994. At the age of 8 she started performing in public, winning several competitions of national and international importance. In 2005, she moved to Italy to continue her studies that led her, at the age of 16, to be admitted to the high specialisation course in violin, held by Maestro SalvatoreAccardoat the “Walter Stauffer” International Academy in Cremona and at the AccademiaChigianain Siena, where she is currently an attendee.

‘A Toda Cuba le Gusta’, the classic debut album by the Afro Cuban All Stars. The first in a trilogy of extraordinary albums recorded by World Circuit in a single two-week session at Havana’s EGREM studios, 1996. The other albums, which share many of the same personnel, were ‘Buena Vista Social Club’ and ‘Introducing Ruben Gonzalez’.

After eight years of performing together, the SpiriTango Quartet nowproposes mind-blowing original versions which are almost transgressive. They bring a freshness and a novelty which goes beyond the scope of traditional tango. Indeed most of the pieces on the album are French works from modern-day composers, adding another dash of boldness. Such was SpiriTango’s original aim: to assert themselves with a great deal of personal inspiration.

Third album, recorded in 1993, by Ali Farka Touré for the English of World Circuit, The Source marks a pivotal moment in the career of the legendary Malian guitarist. For the first time he is surrounded by his close guard, the group Asco, which includes Afel Bocoum singing and Hama Sankare Oumar Toure and chorus and percussion. But these musicians who will remain with him until the end of his life (2006) are not the only ones to highlight the song and the precious riffs of the leader of what we call, in spite of himself, the desert blues.

Award-winning producer and composer Tom E Morrison has worked in an eclectic musical arena from mixing and engineering for UK band Underworld, remixing for P. Diddy's Label Bad Boy, to composing and producing for international artists like Bonnie Tyler, Andrew Roachford, Bliss, Blue Zoo and Natasha Hardy, as well as scoring for film, TV, Playstation, major corporate brands and theatre.

Anne Nikitin is an award-winning Canadian composer based in the UK. From sweeping orchestral scores to dirty guitars, mesmeric synths and delicate piano refrains, Anne is known for creating unique sound worlds spanning a wide range of genres. Her debut into film came when she scored Bart Layton’s “jaw-dropping” BAFTA-winning film The Imposter. The Guardian described her work as “a classy score”, while Indiewire dubbed it “a cosmic score”.

Nikki Chooi was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and began his studies at age 9 at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, under the tutelage of Sydney Humphreys. He is a graduate of the Mount Royal Conservatory, received his undergraduate degree from the Curtis Institute of Music, and completed further studies at the Juilliard School with Ida Kavafian and Donald Weilerstein.

Ian Arber is a film and television composer, known for his work on Netflix's "Medici: The Magnificent" (2018), BBC2 comedy-series "Quacks" (2017), "My Name Is Lenny" (2017) starring John Hurt, Usain Bolt documentary "I Am Bolt" (2016) and "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" (2015). Cellist Sung-Won Yang’s debut album entirely devoted to Kodály was “the editor’s choice of the month” Gramophone Magazine and “critic’s choice of the year” Gramophone Magazine in the UK (2003). Since then, intelligence and originality of his interpretation and play have been world-widely praised by both the critics and the music fans, and have led him to appear on such prestigious venues as the Lincoln Center, the Salle Pleyel, the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Royal Concertgebouw.

Kevin Lau is one of Canada’s most active young composers. A prolific composer of orchestral, chamber, ballet, and film music, he served as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra’s RBC Affiliate Composer from 2012-2015. He recently composed the score for the National Ballet of Canada’s original full-length ballet Le Petit Prince (2016), and has since collaborated with choreographer Guillaume Côté on a second ballet (Dark Angels, commissioned by the National Arts Centre Orchestra.) His music has been recorded commercially on many albums, including the JUNO-nominated fusion album “Spin Cycle” (Centrediscs), featuring the Afiara String Quartet and DJ Skratch Bastid. Kevin holds a doctoral degree in music composition from the University of Toronto where he studied with renowned Canadian composer Christos Hatzis.

Chris Alan Lee is an American composer best known for his work on US TV sitcoms as well as creating the music for some of the most influential advertising (WingMan-Coors Light, Nelly Cherrios Remix). He composed the score to the critically acclaimed Mortal Kombat Legacy web series which broke records as YouTube’s most viewed video in a week, accumulating 5.5 million views. Chris attended Berklee College of Music in Boston and in the early 2000’s made a career as a Producer/Engineer and Musician for the Pussy Cat Dolls, Kelly Clarkson, Beyonce, Demi Lovato and many other seminal artists. Chris also had a production deal through Maverick records/Warner Bros from 2005 -2010.
