Award-winning cellist and composer Peter Gregson is the latest contemporary composer to be invited by Deutsche Grammophon to reinterpret iconic works in the classical canon for their pioneering Recomposed series. Gregson follows in the footsteps of contemporaries Matthew Herbert, Matthias Arfmann, Jimi Tenor and Max Richter, whose Recomposed by Max Richter – Vivaldi: The Four Seasons was the latest, hugely popular release in the series.

Pure-O, the new LP by Berlin-via-Norway musician Farao, is a prog-pop exposition on the curious dichotomy between beauty and destructiveness in sex and relationships. Where so much modern pop attempts to tug similar thematic threads only to succumb to naiveté and euphemism, Farao grabs these subjects and dives headlong into a neon pool of synthesizer, zither, drums, and soaring vocals without sacrificing maturity, complexity, or artistry. Musically, she references 90’s R&B, and the untapped goldmine of Soviet disco. But the most important pillar of Pure-O – its living, breathing, biological quality– is entirely Farao’s own.

Plenty of young musicians show promise, but very few enjoy the sort of meteoric rise that pianist, keyboardist and composer James Francies is currently experiencing. At only 23, he’s played with jazz headliners like Pat Metheny, Chris Potter, Jeff “Tain” Watts, Stefon Harris, Eric Harland, and Terrace Martin, and racked up equally impressive credits in hip-hop and R&B: from gigs with Ms. Lauryn Hill, José James, Common, and Nas, to studio time for Chance the Rapper’s Grammy-winning hit “No Problem” and Kodak Black, to appearances with The Roots on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon alongside his mentor and friend Questlove.

With her debut Mack Avenue Records album CRIME ZONE (available October 12), next generation Los Angeles pianist Connie Han has created an edgy blend of modern and traditional jazz. Han’s parents, both practicing classical musicians, instilled an appreciation for music and a strong work ethic in Han very early on, enrolling her in piano lessons at the age of five.

Fiona Boyes is Australia’s most successful and celebrated international Blues artist. Her previous Reference Recordings release, Professin’ The Blues, received the 2017 Acoustic Album of the Year award from Blues Blast Magazine. The Blues Foundation in Memphis has honored her with 6 Blues Music Award nominations, including Acoustic Album of the Year and Best Acoustic Artist in 2017. In 2003, she won their International Blues Challenge, representing The Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society.

Rhino will issue Unzipped, a new Whitesnake super deluxe edition box set, later this year, that focuses on ‘unplugged’ and acoustic-based performances recorded over the last 20 years or so.

Fred Chapellier's own tribute to the legendary Fleetwood Mac guitarist (BB King used to say that he gave him chills) concentrated on his 1967-1970 period. Fred brings his own personal touch to the master works, staying as close as possible to the sound of the times and to the spirit of the original versions. Fred Chapellier has been playing music for more than 20 years and has now joined the ranks of the top French blues rock guitarists. Semi-finalist at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis (the largest gathering of blues musicians in the world) he has toured with some of the best French vocalists and many american artists as Tom Principato or Billy Price. He has recorded eight solo albums and contributed to innumerable discs by some of the best artists in the field.

But in 2018, it’s time to mix things up. On this year’s Blues Caravan, you’ll not only find one young gun with a dazzling career ahead of her, but also two heavyweights with a sky-high reputation. Canadian singer-songwriter Matt Mays returns with the release of Once Upon a Hell of a Time….Matt co-produced the album with collaborator Loel Campbell (Wintersleep). This is Matt Mays’ sixth album and the follow up to Coyote, winner of the 2014 JUNO Award for Rock Album of the Year. Constantly on the move, Matt made the record all over North America with sessions in California, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New York. The result is a thirteen-track rock album sure to thrill long-time fans and new listeners. Matt himself describes the album as “party rock for the heartbroken.”

Having made his debut last year with American Teen, Khalid has now announced a follow-up effort. The singer has revealed plans for a new EP titled Suncity, which will arrive October 19. As he noted in his announcement, it signals the "start of a new era." You can find the EP's artwork above, picturing Khalid sitting in the sun out front of a house. This year has seen Khalid contribute to albums from 6LACK, Kendrick Lamar, Buddy and Shawn Mendes. He released single "Better" last month.

Amir is the debut album from Tamino via Communion Records. It was produced by PJ Maertens and Jo Francken, and recorded at Maertens’ house in Belgium and at Audiworkx Studios in Holland. Of Belgian, Egyptian and Lebanese heritage the 21-year-old musician has written and shaped an album of startling, visceral, sit-up-and-listen power. Amir features a handful of tracks from his debut EP, Habibi including Indigo Night which features Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood on bass guitar. Although the majority of the playing heard on Amir is Tamino himself, he is joined by a collective of Arabic musicians based in Brussels called Nagham Zikrayat.
