Renée Fleming, who is currently wowing audiences in “Carousel,” has announced her new album “Broadway.”

Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien, guided by François Lazarevitch’s virtuoso flute, have already led us along the roads of Ireland and Scotland, notably the High Road to Kilkenny (ALPHA 234), a great success in 2016. This time, they venture into England with an essentially secular programme devoted to Henry Purcell (1659-95), varying the mood by alternating between instrumental dances and songs performed by the English countertenor Tim Mead, including ‘O Solitude’ and ‘What power art thou’. While Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien have chosen these celebrated pieces for pleasure above all, with this English programme they also fill in a new piece in their jigsaw map of the United Kingdom.

Although vocal arranger Howard Roberts (not the guitarist) made some nice funky records in his time, this is a fairly traditional batch of spirituals, augmented by African production, and packaged in a style that's designed to appeal to the white liberal – even though the conception of the project is fairly authentic. Roberts himself plays tenor on the session, and the overall sound is sort of a mix between a Max Roach vocal project and one of the Art Blakey drum ensemble records. Titles include "Hold On", "Sinner Man", "Steal Away", and "Let My People Go".

Combining a mixture of self-penned compositions and traditional tunes, the album takes Ímar's signature sound a step further, including tracks featuring string arrangements written by the highly acclaimed Scottish musician, producer and award-winning composer Donald Shaw.

Words We Mean is the debut full-length album of Oklahoma City-based indie-folk trio Annie Oakley. In the works for three years, the album follows the all-girl band from youth to womanhood through songs with remarkable artistic range. Immaculate vocal harmonies and sharply observant lyrics embody themes of grief, recovery, wistful regrets and misplaced hopes, and new love in this much-anticipated release.

Warner Classics is excited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Chanticleer, “the world’s reigning male chorus” (The New Yorker), with a new recording, Then and There, Here and Now, to be released October 12. Alexandre Tharaud records Beethoven for the first time! Beethoven’s last three sonatas, Nos. 30, 31, 32, composed 1820-22 and are considered some of the most difficult works in the repertoire. One of the most exciting and unusual musical encounters to have taken place in recent years: Plácido Domingo, world-renowned opera tenor, met Pablo Sáinz Villegas who Domingo hailed Villegas as, “The master of the guitar”. Upon meeting on stage in June 2016 at a benefit concert marking Domingo’s seventy-fifth birthday held in Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu Stadium before an audience of 80,000 enthusiastic spectators.
