If Revenge, Eurythmics' fifth album, marked a slight fall-off in the group's commercial and artistic accomplishments, Savage, their sixth collection, confirmed that decline. In the U.S., the album failed to generate a substantial hit single and sold poorly compared to previous efforts. In the more faithful U.K., the album hit the Top Ten and spun off four chart singles, but none that matched earlier hits. Musically, Eurythmics, for the most part, abandoned the more conventional pop/rock they recently had been pursuing, returning to the synthesized dance music and arch tone of their early hit "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)." But they still seemed less inspired than before.

On the 22nd September 2017, Devin Townsend Project played a special show at the Ancient Roman Theater in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the landmark Ocean Machine album in full, as well as a set of fan-requested tracks alongside the Orchestra and Choir of Plovdiv State Opera. This concert was filmed and released as ‘Ocean Machine – Live at the Ancient Theater’. Devin comments: “Plovdiv and this live package represents a lot to me, it signifies the end of one era, and the celebration of another. Amidst a gruelling touring year, this show came together with much blood, sweat, and tears, and the result is the culmination of many aspects of my work on one stage.

The second coming of heavy rockers Lucifer! After being formed back in 2014 and releasing the much-acclaimed "Lucifer I" via Rise Above in 2015, vocalist Johanna Sadonis has teamed up with Nicke Andersson (Entombed, The Hellacopters, Imperial State Electric) to reshape Lucifer. With the addition of Robin Tidebrink (guitar), Alexandr Mayr (bass) and Dead Lord's Martin Nordin (guitar), Lucifer successfully transformed into a whole new beast. While they are still citing Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Blue Oyster Cult, Steppenwolf, 70's Heart and Fleetwood Mac as influences, the songwriting, sound and diversity of "Lucifer II" mark a giant leap compared to the debut.

Another singer, another wowser! Tuesday it was Allegra Levy, today it's Marty Elkins. Two girls successfully mining the GASbook, both able to convey the emotions expressed by the lyricists without over-emoting. Unlike Levy, Elkins doesn't stray into more contemporary waters but stays well within the 'golden era' that stretched from the 1920s to the mid-1950s. This isn't a criticism of either. Both do what they do do, well. lkins got hooked on jazz when at college in Boston. She discovered a copy of Billie's Lady in Satin in a Woolworth's bargain bin. The gal was hooked!

After having left the ensemble of Charles Mingus and upon working with John Coltrane, Eric Dolphy formed a short-lived but potent quintet with trumpeter Booker Little, who would pass away three months after this recording. Despite all of the obstacles and subsequent tragedy, this quintet became legendary over the years – justifiably so – and developed into a role model for all progressive jazz combos to come. The combined power of Dolphy and Little – exploring overt but in retrospect not excessive dissonance and atonality – made them a target for critics but admired among the burgeoning progressive post-bop scene.

It’s difficult to believe that Judy Dyble hasn’t release a solo album for five years now. Yes, there was a live recording in the wake of "Flow And Change" and there was some live performances, including ones with the briefly reformed TRADER HORNE, and session work, yet – apart from the singer’s collaboration with Andy Lewis last year, “Summer Dancing” (not made available for review)– there’s been a half-hiatus on creative front. The more welcome is “Earth Is Sleeping”: scheduled to hit the shelves on July 6th, this record should be a worthy continuation of Judy’s creative renaissance.

Lee Konitz & Dan Tepfer - Snapshots of an unusual duo: Legendary alto saxophonist Lee Konitz and young pianist Dan Tepfer have been forming a musical team for around ten years…. After playing now for 60+ years, it's still very challenging for me to play a simple melody and have it clean and touch the reed at the proper time in the proper way. … I could stop and say, well that was a D minor, G seven, but I really don't want to know that. I just want to know that there's a combination of notes that makes a sound.

Released in 1986, Revenge was the sixth album from the Eurythmics featuring Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. The album contains one of their biggest hits "Missionary Man", which hit number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock Chart. The British duo Eurythmics were a force on the Billboard charts throughout the ’80s, as their quirky electro-pop resonated with music fans.

Mute announces a special deluxe edition of Silver Eye, Goldfrapp’s acclaimed seventh album from 2017. If 2013’s Tales of Us, a set of noirish folk fables, roamed the same pastoral landscape as Felt Mountain and Seventh Tree, then Silver Eye (a reference to the moon) belongs to the pulsing, electronic lineage of Black Cherry and Supernature only deeper and darker. The common thread between these two modes, apart from the consistently exquisite arrangements and Alison Goldfrapp’s extraordinary voice, is a set of enduring preoccupations, which inform both the lyrics and the visual aesthetic.

This edition has been newly digitally re-mastered from the original analog master tapes by Eurythmics mastermind Dave Stewart, with input from collaborator Annie Lennox.

Quiet Riot broke a lot of rock and roll history book records and made quite a bit of Noize with their mega-platinum smash Metal Health album in 1983. This hard working Los Angeles power quartet featured the great vocals and writing of front man Kevin Dubrow, bassist extraordinaire Rudy Sarzo, power drummer Frank Banali and guitar shredder Carlos Cavazo. Together, they delivered the goods in a big way, making Metal Health one of the first ever multi-platinum heavy metal albums to go number one. Thanks in part to the amazing smash cover version of Slade's Cum On Feel The Noize, Metal Health was and still is a fixture at radio and retail.
