What we know of Downtown New York comes from the countercultural and creative flowering that emerged in lower Manhattan in the 1960s, attributable to cheap live-work spaces called lofts. These were often abandoned and disused small manufacturing spaces and they became a nexus for artistic practice and life. From a jazz perspective, lofts were alternatives to the club scene, and they gained notoriety in the 1970s.

With support from the State Fund of Culture and the National Museum, Supraphon is releasing an extraordinary album of Antonín Dvořák’s Moravian Duets. The entire cycle of folk poetry settings has been recorded on the composer’s very own 1879 Bösendorfer piano, a precious item maintained at the Antonín Dvořák Museum in Prague. The album features internationally renowned young artists, all of them possessing a great sense for the grace of Dvořák’ songs, as well as the singular tone qualities of the instrument, once touched by the maestro himself. The soprano Simona Šaturová, the mezzo-soprano Markéta Cukrová and the tenor Petr Nekoranec were accompanied on Dvořák’s piano by Vojtěch Spurný. A Czech Television programme, produced by Jiří Hubač from BVA International, originated during the recording process. Supraphon is scheduled to release the new album of Moravian Duets on 20 April 2018, on CD and in digital formats.

In this double‐album set the Italian ensemble Eridanus brings to light the lesser‐known vocal music of an unjustly neglected 17th-century composer, Maurizio Cazzati (1616-1678). While his instrumental music has enjoyed resurgence in the recent period music revival, this record represents a pioneering interpretation of Cazzati’s large and varied vocal output (which forms a substantial part of the oeuvre of this very prolific composer) featuring numerous world premieres.

Bill Evans refused producer Orrin Keepnews' invitation to record a follow up album to his 1956 debut "New Jazz Conceptions" for over two years, stating that he had nothing new to say. He joined the Miles Davis quintet, participating in "Kind Of Blue", and took his time to plan his re-emergence as a leader in his own right. "Everyone Digs Bill Evans" marked that return in 1958 but it was "Portrait In Jazz", released a year later, that claimed his place at the forefront of jazz.

Newly remastered: Dick Schory was a noted percussionist and recording artist, played with the Chicago Symphony, toured as a performing percussionist, appeared on TV, directed radio and TV commercials, and was advertising manager and educator for Ludwig Drum Company. Schory was a major influence on both classical and popular percussion music. He was a master innovator. There were no limits to his creativity when it came to arranging percussion ensembles; he would use unorthodox instruments such as auto brake drums, inverted rice bowls, and even a manifold from a '46 Chevrolet to great effect. This classic album recorded in 1957 presents true percussion artistry by ten top professional musicians each playing as many as five and six different instruments in a single number.
