The Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra was little more than a year old when this album was recorded live at the Village Vanguard, which was the band's Monday night home for every week of its existence. Jones almost single-handedly brought the big band into the modern age with this origanization. Swung hard by Mel Lewis's drums, the band sailed through the complex charges of Jones and Bob Brookmeyer with panache. Soloists include Brookmeyer, Jones, Richard Williams, Jerome Richardson and Joe Farrell. Three bonus tracks have added to the original LP, which has been remixed and mastered in 24-bit.

Presenting Thad Jones/Mel Lewis & The Jazz Orchestra is a 1966 big band jazz album recorded by the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra and released on the Solid State Records label. It is the debut release by the orchestra (although an earlier live session recording would eventually be released as Opening Night). Sorcerer, the third album by the second Miles Davis Quintet, is in a sense a transitional album, a quiet, subdued affair that rarely blows hot, choosing to explore cerebral tonal colorings. Even when the tempo picks up, as it does on the title track, there's little of the dense, manic energy on Miles Smiles this is about subtle shadings, even when the compositions are as memorable as Tony Williams' "Pee Wee" or Herbie Hancock's "Sorcerer." As such, it's a little elusive, since it represents the deepening of the band's music as they choose to explore different territory.

Puerto Rican trumpeter Charlie Sepúlveda has been a fixture of the Latin jazz world since the late 1980s when he played in the band of pianist and composer Eddie Palmieri. 'Songs for Nat' is his second album for HighNote after 2017's well-received 'Mr. EP - A Tribute to Eddie Palmieri'. During the 1990s, a renaissance period for el jazz Latino, the brassman toured and recorded with an array of great artists including Tito Puente and the Golden Latin Jazz All Stars, Dizzy Gillespie and the United Nation Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis, Hilton Ruiz, Steve Turre, Dave Valentin, Danilo Pérez, and Paul Simon among others. He launched his own group, The Turnaround, 25 years ago, and has been turning the tables on the traditional Latin jazz format ever since.

Having sprung from L.A.’s Odd Future collective, Matt Martians and Syd innately understand the dynamics of collaboration and ego management. So when The Internet’s third album, Ego Death, was nominated for a Grammy in 2016, all five members dove into solo projects rather than crank out a follow-up. “I had a lot of music I needed to get out of my system that wouldn’t have made sense coming out under The Internet,” Syd told Beats 1 host Zane Lowe in May 2018. “It just made us all feel a lot more free and open to each other’s ideas.” The result is a more sonically inventive and personally assured record, and the cohesiveness is evident in everything from the lyrics to the title. “Going out on our own got us battle wounds that we can all relate to,” said Syd. “We all move in a unit now.”

Punch Brothers return with All Ashore, their first album since 2015's The Phosphorescent Blues. The band wrote all nine songs on the album, which they self-produced and recorded in Los Angeles.
