The exciting meeting of two living legends of Jazz! For the first time on SACD/DVD "The fastest-fingered fiddler in the world" Roby Lakatos is joined by "speed demon" guitar hero Biréli Lagrène for a unique tribute to Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt. Both musicians performed in their youth with Stephane Grappelli. For this album they surrounded themselves with the superlative big band of the Modern Art Orchestra and by two first rate Jazzmen of the younger generation: thrilling drummer Niek de Bruijn and guitar sensation Andreas Varady. This is an explosive tribute to Manouche Jazz with standards such as "Djangology", "Nuages", "Stella by Starlight" and "Nuits de Saint-Germain-Des-Près".

'La finta giardiniera' has long been one of the lesser-known operas of the young Mozart, perhaps because the original Munich version, sung in Italian, quickly disappeared from the repertoire until it was revived in German from 1779 onwards.

The Dmitri Ensemble under Graham Ross performs Shostakovich's String Quartets Nos. 1, 8 and 10, re-worked as thrilling Chamber Symphonies for string orchestra by his pupil and advocate, Rudolf Barshai. Written in Dresden 1960, Shostakovich was sent there to compose a film score but was overwhelmed by the aftermath of WWII bombings which he saw; the result was the 8th quartet.

Craig Hella Johnson leads Conspirare on a musical journey along Spain’s famous Camino de Compostela in this inspiring performance of 'Path of Miracles' by British composer Joby Talbot. Talbot studied with Simon Bainbridge at the Guildhall and in 2004 was named Classic FM's first Composer in Residence. The Royal Ballet's recent revival of Talbot's 'Alice in Wonderland', played to packed houses and rave reviews.

The two sonatas for clarinet and piano, composed in 1894, were Brahms’s last chamber works. Knowing that he could count on the virtuosity of their dedicatee, the prodigious clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld (1856-1907), Brahms enthusiastically exploited all the expressive possibilities of the instrument. Under the fingers of Lorenzo Coppola, the clarinet prays, sobs, dreams or laughs, bringing astonishing conviction to all these varied emotions.

The recording of 18 features Ensemble Signal along with members of Third Coast Percussion, twenty musicians in total. The recording is the result of a week-long residency of the musicians at EMPAC in mid-March, 2011 that culminated with a public performance on March 12th 2011.

The pianist is very well known to music lovers. The composer,much less so. However Abdel Rahman El Bacha has composed since his childhood. His work as a creator is presented here for the very first time on a recording. A journey from his childhood through to recent scores, this recording represents a veritable musical identity card.
