This is a real find! I was a little hesitant due to the lack of product information, but luckily an earlier reviewer spelled it out pretty clearly. My only concern was "do I already have most of these?" Bottom line, I already had exactly one cut: the Amsterdam 'Maybe' and it's always good to have a spare anyway. Everything else is new to me, and trust me, I own alot of Joplin. (And she owns me, but that's another story.). If the sound of her voice in song has as disproportionate an affect on your psyche (to the good) as it does on mine, you probably better pick this up. Two Maybe's, two Try (A Little Harder)s (OMG I've never heard anything like EITHER of these), a couple of Summertimes (each with all new ways of accentuating vowels, consonants, switching between octaves and of course stretching out the final note for your ecstatic enjoyment), and of course a 'Ball And Chain' as unique and beautiful as the rest of them.

FINALLY AVAILABLE ABBS FIRST EVER SHOW BUT WITHOUT GREGG Duane and Gregg Allman formed their first band, the Escorts, which evolved into the Allman Joys, in the mid-1960s. By 1967, they had moved to St. Louis, where a Los Angeles-based recording executive discovered them; they consequently moved out West and were renamed the Hour Glass, cutting two unsuccessful albums for Liberty Records. . Duane then moved back East to pursue a career as a session musician at Muscle Shoals Studios, Alabama, while Gregg stayed behind in Hollywood, bound by contractual obligations with Liberty, who believed he could hold a solo career.

This interesting disc from Dux surveys early Polish string quartets by two major figures in Polish music who were contemporaries of Chopin, Ignacy Feliks Dobrzynski, and Stanislaw Moniuszko. Moniuszko is best known through his operas and large sacred choral works; outside of the two string quartets played here by the Camerata Quartet, he produced almost nothing in terms of chamber music. Dobrzynski wrote four operas, of which Monbar, or the Freebooters (1838) was the work the composer considered his most important. However, in posterity it is through instrumental music that Dobrzynski is known – his two symphonies, various pieces in concertante format, and numerous chamber and solo piano works have kept his name alive.

Mozart was still in nappies at the time when Haydn more or less single-handedly invented the string quartet. Nearly half a century later, as he struggled - and failed - to complete his last quartet, Beethoven was already at work on his Eroica Symphony. In the interim, Haydn wrote considerably more quartet masterpieces than Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert put together, raising the medium to a level of sophistication, subtlety and originality that provided a yardstick for all later composers. Mind you, it took him some time to get there: it isn't until the eighth CD of this set that we reach the first of the unequivocally great works, the six quartets which make up Op. 20.

J.S. Bach’s genius is universally revered by music lovers, and a significant part of his output was in transcriptions of his own work, a tradition kept alive in Eleonor Bindman’s piano versions of the Six Suites for Solo Cello. Bindman has avoided embellishing these iconic pieces, preserving the intriguing ambiguities in Bach’s implied harmonies and savouring their expressive qualities through the baritone register of a marvellous Bösendorfer piano. These admirably accurate transcriptions reveal the mysterious mathematical grace and flexibility of structure that makes Bach’s art so organic and eternal.

Beautifully presented in a 6-disc digifile foldout, this powerful CD anthology brings together five of the very best live broadcasts by Eagles spanning the two decades from 1974 to 1994.
Featured here are all the hits from this amazingly creative period when Eagles produced some of the most legendary music in the history of rock including Desperado, Tequila Sunrise and the immortal Hotel California. This set covers three concerts and a radio broadcast. The first disk, from 1974, features Linda Ronstadt and Jackson Browne, and is the Eagles at their pre-Hotel California best. It contains a few classics from the likes of On The Border that were shaded on the release of Hotel Califiornia, as well as a couple of tracks that have never otherwise been released. The second concert spans two disks and covers a concert from Houston TX in November 1976, titles Hotel California. Disks 4 and 5, called "You Can Never Leave" records a concert performed in Burbank in April 1994. Both of these concerts are RAW — they're not overproduced like "Live in '75" was, and they reflect all of the candid imperfections of the live concert experience. They're that much better for it. The last disk has five tracks from a radio broadcast session in Ontario, CA, from April '74. It also contains a track that has otherwise never been released. If you're an Eagles fan this set is a must.

STUNNING 1995 RADIO BROADCAST RECORDING FROM THE REUNITED EAGLES Following a 14-year hiatus, and months of public speculation, the Eagles formally reunited in 1994. The line-up comprised the five Long Run-era members - Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh, Don Felder, and Timothy B. Schmit. The ensuing tour spawned the live album Hell Freezes Over (named after Henley's recurring statement that the group would get back together "when hell freezes over"), which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard album chart. The record proved as successful as the tour, selling six million copies in the U.S. The tour was interrupted in September 1994 because of Frey's health issues, but it resumed in 1995 and continued into 1996. On 22nd February 1995, the group were in the mid-West and performed at the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN., playing a quite stunning show which was broadcast across local FM radio, allowing those fans unable to get a ticket to tune in and hear the gig live. This 2CD set now features this superb concert in its entirety, released here for the first time.

As one of the world's foremost interpreters of Baroque keyboard music on the modern piano, Angela Hewitt has established a fine reputation for impeccable playing and fresh musical insights. Listeners who cherish her award-winning recordings on Hyperion of the music of Johann Sebastian Bach have already experienced her exquisite playing, and they will be delighted to hear this selection of sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, Bach's contemporary and an innovator whose compositions influenced the development of the Classical sonata. Some of these selections are well known, particularly the Sonata in C major, Kk159, the Sonata in D major, Kk96, and the Sonata in E major, Kk380, which are often anthologized, though Hewitt hasn't packed this disc with greatest hits (with 555 sonatas to choose from, there are many less familiar that deserve attention). Hewitt's performances are thoughtfully phrased, polished in tone, and rhythmically precise with a modicum of rubato, and she is alert to the subtleties that make this music so beguiling. Hewitt recorded these 16 sonatas in the Beethovensaal in Hannover, where she made her first Bach recordings for Hyperion 20 years previously, and the acoustics are nearly ideal for her style.

Odetta's debut album was a strong, confident effort featuring just her and her guitar on 16 tracks, most of which were traditional in origin. In its day, it was quite an influential recording; Bob Dylan, in fact, once cited this record in particular as the one that made him decide to trade in his electric guitar and amplifier for an acoustic guitar. Several of the songs would find their ways into the repertoires of subsequent folkies, and even some folk-rock bands. There's no way of knowing whether they heard the tunes first on this release, but it's entirely possible, as it was one of the first strong traditional folk LPs.

Congregation of Annihilation features 11 all new tracks from Metal Church and continues to build upon their iconic sound the band established over three decades ago. From the first guitar riff of album opener "Another Judgement Day" through the driving outro of album closer "Salvation," it is clear Metal Church is back. "Pick A God and Prey", "Children of the Lie", "Congregation of Annihilation and "These Violent Thrills" showcase the sonically charged songwriting that made the early Metal Church albums" Metal Church" and "The Dark" such fan favorites. Haunting musical opuses "Me the Nothing" and "Making Monsters" each puts the musicianship that Metal Church was known for on full display in 2023. Infused with intelligent lyrical content, thundering guitar riffs, and Marc's aggressive soaring vocals, Congregation of Annihilation furthers the bands sonic evolution up to the next level.
