This CD reissues a session that teams together three "super" players: pianist Tommy Flanagan, bassist Red Mitchell and drummer Elvin Jones. On two of Flanagan's better originals ("Minor Perhaps" and "Rachel's Rondo") and four jazz standards (including "Django" and "Things Ain't What They Used to Be"), the musicians communicate quite well (Flanagan and Jones had played together back in the mid-'50s in Detroit) and often think as one. Fine straight-ahead music.

Novembre's 1996 effort "Arte Novencento" is the second album written by the young Orlando brothers. Well, compared to their first release, "Wish I Could Dream It Again", we see that songs still retain the dreamy doom sound that they borrowed from other European bands at the time (notably Katatonia and Anathema) but shift the focus from guitar driven melancholy to an upbeat floating sound.

Triumvirat released a number of excellent albums over their rein with "Pompeii" being regarded as one of the classics by this music lover. This was to be on "Pompeii" a re-shaped band with new members and a new fresh sound both which they achieved. Biggest change from their early lineup is the addition of English lead vocalist Barry Palmer who has a purely magical voice. This was a mega project for lead member Jurgen Fritz who not only plays his vast array of keyboards (Steinway grand, Hammond C3, Organ, Moog, Polyphonic synths, Arp string ensemble, fender rhodes, clavinet) but also added some heavy choir and string arrangements. In fact the orchestral parts were recorded by Conny Plank as was on the album as well.

It's likely that a large portion of the audience Del Amitri won with the lightly infectious, incessantly catchy "Roll to Me" thought of the Scottish group as a new band, not an outfit that had been recording for over a decade. That may be one of the reasons why Hatful of Rain: The Best of Del Amitri was released in 1998, a mere three years after "Roll to Me" climbed into the Top Ten. (It could also be that the follow-up, Some Other Sucker's Parade, stiffed on the charts.) In any case, Hatful of Rain is an excellent overview of Del Amitri's career, containing no less than 17 tracks, including all of their American and British hits. It may overlook their early independent singles, yet the consistency of their major-label work in the '80s and '90s gives the collection a sense of cohesion, even if it is sequenced out of chronological order. What matters is that Hatful of Rain contains everything that a casual fan could want while reconfirming their stature as a solid singles band to their core constituents – and that's everything a good greatest-hits album should do.

"Love Wars" is the 1983 debut album by musical duo Womack & Womack. The album, described by Chris Rizik of Soul Tracks as "a critical favorite", charted at #34 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. In his review of the album, music critic Robert Christgau praised husband Cecil Womack and wife Linda Womack as "ace singers and songwriters (as opposed to singer-songwriters)", noting that "their lyrics about loss and conflict are sharper than those about love and happiness". Two singles from the album, "Love Wars" and "Baby I'm Scared of You", were hits in the UK, reaching #14 and #72 on the UK Singles Chart, respectively. The album was ranked #4 among the "Albums of the Year" for 1984 by NME, and the single "Love Wars" was ranked as the year's #1 song.

“Rhythm & Blues Goes Rock & Roll volumes one to five from Atomicat Records looks at Caucasian cover-rockers from America and Australia. The musicians are from differing music backgrounds and covered R&B songs in their own style. The music within My Baby Left Me is sourced from the golden years of 1955 through to 1963, from labels large and small. Every album contains twenty-eight songs, and each album ends like Rock ‘n’ Roll evenings of the past, with a love song. The album is stuffed full of cover-rockers, with numerous artists being mostly unknown, but not lacking in star quality. The albums are perfect for collectors who wish to own a more diverse range of songs, and those who enjoy dancing.”

The latest ECM album to feature pianist Ethan Iverson – following last year’s duo recording with saxophonist Mark Turner, Temporary Kings, and two lauded discs with the Billy Hart Quartet – presents the Brooklyn-based artist at the head of his own quartet in a program of standards and blues, recorded live at Manhattan’s famed Village Vanguard. Iverson’s quartet for Common Practice features as its prime melodic voice the veteran Tom Harrell, who was voted Trumpeter of the Year in 2018 by the U.S. Jazz Journalists Association.

His fans didn’t know it at the time, but Holmes did indeed come full circle with 1981’s Elektra LP, and it would turn out to be his last word in pop/rock songwriting for over a decade. Holmes tells of being encouraged to return to an orchestrated style for this offering, and so “The End” (reaching #31 on the AC chart) does just that. “Loved by the One You Love,” like the previous album’s “Blackjack,” stalled at #103 on the pop chart, despite having the same infectious pop quality as “Him” or “Escape.” A theme of romance permeated the album, and the open-hearted “One Born Every Minute” (one love, not one sucker, contrary to P.T. Barnum’s belief) remains a favorite of its songwriter.

"Raise Your Fist and Yell" is the 10th solo album by rock musician Alice Cooper released on September 5, 1987. It features the track “Prince of Darkness”, which is featured very briefly in the John Carpenter film of the same name, in which Cooper has a cameo as a murderous vagrant. The song can be heard on the Walkman of one of his victims. A music video was made for the song "Freedom", which also became the album's sole single. Raise Your Fist and Yell is the only Alice Cooper album to feature Ken K. Mary on drums and the second and last to feature Kip Winger on bass. The album continues the slasher film trend created by Cooper’s previous album Constrictor. The track “Lock Me Up” features a guest appearance from Robert Englund, who portrayed Freddy Krueger in the A Nightmare on Elm Street series. The album cover for Raise Your Fist and Yell was painted by artist Jim Warren.

FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE is the 22nd solo studio album from Brian Eno and the first since January 2017’s Reflection. The 10-track album was recorded and produced by him at his studio in West London and sees Eno singing on the majority of tracks. It’s a sonically beguiling, ultimately optimistic exploration of the narrowing, precarious future of humanity and our planet. As Eno himself concludes, “Briefly, we need to fall in love again, but this time with Nature, with Civilisation and with our hopes for the future.”
