Recorded at Oberlin College, Ohio in 1953, the Dave Brubeck Quartet’s “Jazz at Oberlin” album is one of the earliest works in the cool jazz genre. As well as Dave Brubeck (piano) the album also features Paul Desmond (alto sax), Lloyd Davis (drums) and Ron Cotty (bass). This new edition of the album is released as part of the OJC Series and is pressed on 180-gram vinyl at RTI with all-analog mastering from the original tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio. It is presented in a Tip-On Jacket.

One of the most important artists of our era, Ryuichi Sakamoto has had a prolific career spanning over four decades, from techno-pop stardom to Oscar-winning film composer. The evolution of his music has coincided with his life journeys. "Coda" is a compilation album, originally released in Japan. All titles except "Japan" and "Coda" originally recorded for the soundtrack of the motion picture "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence".

"In Concert" is the second live album by Australian band Dead Can Dance, following 1994's "Toward the Within". It was recorded during the Anastasis world tour. Various versions of the album contained different track listings. The digital download featured the same 16 songs as the limited triple-vinyl box set and the double CD deluxe edition, which are live performances of all Anastasis compositions plus the traditional Arabian song "Lamma Bada", a cover of Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren" and some earlier Dead Can Dance material.

Multi-platinum and Grammy winning San Francisco band TRAIN is set to pay homage to one of their biggest musical inspirations with the release of the first cover album of their career, LED ZEPPELIN II. The 9-track album follows the original Led Zeppelin II track listing including classic hit songs such as "Ramble On" and "Whole Lotta Love." The band has famously covered Zeppelin their entire career in live shows.

"Almost Killed Me" is the debut studio album by Brooklyn-based rock band the Hold Steady, released in 2004 on Frenchkiss Records. It is considered by many to be a concept album, with several recurring themes such as near-death experiences, parties and the fictional character Charlemagne. It's concept album roots are further explored with the recurring characters in Separation Sunday, the Hold Steady's second album, which uses the same characters introduced in Almost Killed Me. Almost Killed Me was ranked number 99 on Rolling Stone's 100 Best Albums of the Decade.

In contrast to the grand scale and public profile of his orchestral and choral works, Johannes Brahms saw the organ as an instrument ‘for home use’, and one in which he confided his most intimate feelings. The earlier pieces were exercises in counterpoint inspired by Brahms’ friendship with Clara Schumann and, despite their academic titles, they are infused with distinctive musical ideas and lyrical expressiveness. The later Chorale Preludes with their themes of suffering and death can be seen as autobiographical, the elder Brahms seeking spiritual strength in the ‘pure style’ of the Protestant tradition.

Renaud Capuçon’s exciting new Mozart project for Deutsche Grammophon comprises three albums and two STAGE+ performances, all to come before the end of the year. Together they encompass the artist’s multi-faceted career as concerto soloist, chamber musician, artistic director and mentor to outstanding young talent. Mozart: The Violin Concertos, recorded with the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne (OCL), of which Capuçon is Artistic Director, is scheduled for release on 29 September 2023. Recorded with three of the emerging artists mentored by Capuçon, Mozart: The Piano Quartets will follow on 10 November, and will inaugurate the Capuçon-DG Beau Soir imprint. The violinist’s trilogy of 2023 Mozart albums will be launched, meanwhile, with the release on 23 June of Mozart: Sonatas for piano and violin, made with American pianist Kit Armstrong.

The Australian Romantic & Classical Orchestra reinvigorates two of Mozart’s best-known works in its brand-new recording Heavenly Mozart with conductor Rachael Beesley and fortepiano soloist Neal Peres Da Costa, releasing 10 November for digital download or streaming via ABC Classic, and on CD on the ARCO label.

1883 was a fruitful year for cello composition as Christoph Croise's new recording reveals. That year marked Edvard Grieg's return to composition after a period of conducting the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, with the Sonata in A minor, his only work for cello and piano. Also that year, Richard Strauss was writing for the same combination at the age of just 19, producing his Sonata in F. Gabriel Faure embarked on a cello sonata in 1880; only the slow movement transpired and was published and premiered as the stand-alone piece Elegie in 1883. Christoph's regular performing partner, Oxana Shevchenko, joins him in this beautifully balanced recording of works for cello and piano.

Celebrated as one of the finest Tudor composers, Thomas Weelkes served as organist and choirmaster at Winchester College and Chichester Cathedral and although famed for his madrigals, wrote more Anglican services than any other major composer of the time. Performed by the professional Irish vocal ensemble Resurgam with The English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble, this album celebrates the sacred music from this prolific composer in Weelkes’ 400th anniversary year.

This eagerly-awaited new release sees Simon Trpceski reunite with conductor Cristian Macelaru to record Brahms Piano Concertos. Their unrivalled chemistry, paramount in Brahms's chamber-like concertos, is on full display in these new performances which puts the two artists' musical affinity in the spotlight. These two contrasting concertos, one beginning in darkness, the other in light, mark Brahms's major contribution to the genre. With Trpceski's flawless technique and sensitive playing, pianophiles are in for a treat. Macelaru's orchestra, WDR Sinfonieorchester, joins the pair to complete the line-up; a perfect companion to their previous album, Shostakovich Piano Concertos, which garnered numerous accolades (BBC Music Magazine Concerto Choice, Le Choix de France Musique, among others).

Franco Alfano was a major musician and teacher who enjoyed considerable success with his operas during his lifetime, but who has been overlooked for decades. Generally regarded as the regenerator of the Italian art song, the works featured in this album offer a generous overview of Alfano’s vocal output, from his Opus 1 Cinq mélodies, written in 1896 when he was a twenty-one-year-old student at Leipzig, to Due liriche per canto, violoncello e pianoforte from 1949, five years before his death.

Louis Wayne Ballard - also known as "Honganozhe", which means "Stands with Eagles" in the Quapaw language - was the first indigenous North American composer of art music, and his extensive knowledge of the music, dance and mythology of this culture informed his compositions. Ballard's style was eclectic, embracing tonal and twelve-tone elements, and the selected pieces presented here reflect the unique variety of his achievement. This album of world premiere recordings features his third ballet, The Four Moons, which embodies a rich cache of classic dances, and the Fantasy Aborigine No. 3 "Kokopelli" with its battery of unique percussive instruments.

With his distinctive blend of incisive drama and lyrical expressiveness, Sir William Walton was one of the greatest English composers of the 20th century. He and his wife Susana made their home on the Italian island of Ischia where he composed the Cello Concerto – a work he considered to be the best of his three concertos for string instruments – heard here for the first time in a stunning transcription for viola by Anna Serova.
