'Two Hours After Midnight' by singer Louise Dodds and pianist Elchin Shirinov is a moving collection of eight traditional Scottish folk songs rearranged by Elchin Shirinov and drawing influence from greats such as Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau, classical composers such as Ravel and Debussy, and the traditional folk music of his homeland Azerbaijan. Each song has its own story, which the duo has reimagined in their own unique way, covering topics such as love, heartbreak, and friendship - with tradition with emotions nestled underneath.

For the 2018 opening celebration of the Berklee Institute for Jazz and Gender Justice, Teri Lyne Carrington asked her students to select and perform songs from the famed jazz Real Book - a compilation of lead sheets or scores of jazz standards - written by women composers. When she released there was only one in the entire book, Carrington, a Grammy Award winning virtuoso jazz drummer, composer, inter-disciplinary artist, activist and educator, who has worked tirelessly over the last decade to advocate for inclusivity and raise the voice of women, trans and non-binary people in jazz, set out to shift the narrative.

Throughout his career, William Fitzsimmons has made his living writing a specific brand of honest and inward-looking folk songs that fearlessly and candidly examine the evolving self while dexterously communicating his talent for rich melodies and catchy instrumentation. Fitzsimmons has released nearly a dozen full-length EP and live records of profound and intensely personal material. When it comes to his songwriting, nothing in his private life is off-limits.

Jon Erik Kellso and The EarRegulars Live at The Ear Inn features a rotating cast of improvised coolness performed at one of the hippest bars in NYC. 15 years in the making, this live recording at New York City's historic Ear Inn, brings together Jon-Erik Kellso and a rotating cast of the "baddest badasses," free-wheeling improvised ensemble interplay and daring solos, with an enthusiastic audience of fans, friends and surprised folks who just showed up because it's one of the oldest and coolest bars in New York. The music stylistically ranges from New Orleans trad through small-band swing and mainstream, always with an open-minded and in-the-moment approach seldom realized in more formal jazz clubs, concerts or studio recordings.

Keeping a band together, particularly among the mercurial community of jazz musicians, is no small feat. Other gigs beckon. Life outside of making art takes precedence. It’s a reality that makes the continued existence and progression of Portland quintet Blue Cranes feel so momentous. The ensemble — saxophonists Reed Wallsmith and Joe Cunningham, drummer Ji Tanzer, keyboardist Rebecca Sanborn, and bassist Jon Shaw — has been working together in a variety of formats since 2004, creating a solid body of work that has connected them to both the traditional sounds and the future-minded artists of their chosen genre.

When you think about events in a generation it usually reflects the environment surrounding itself, even if the name dennotes something unrefined and unused. This band has promise and doesn't waste a single moment to wallow in its proverbial status as an unrecognizable and or lost generation. The fact is that all these gentlemen hail from a country, Italy, not known as being a jazz powerhouse; they overcome a large uphill battle and in my opinion are at the top of the hill with a select few in this so called wasted gereration. This music perfectly demonstrates what the energy and sound of the time is. You will get a glimpse in this hour long performance at genius level that will most certainly will not have been a waste.

Vuma Levin is a multi-award-winning guitar player and one of the leading talents in South African jazz. In September 2021, Vuma Levin achieved a major milestone in his career when he was named the Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz, a coveted award that is widely recognized as the highest honor for an artist in South Africa. His new album, an orchestral undertaking titled The Past is Unpredictable: Only the Future is Certain, is an attempt to create a work that is commensurate with the scale of this achievement.

A Sonic Apéritif! This auditory hors d'oeuvre spawned the album that helped start the cocktail and exotica rebirth of the '90s! It's hard to call recordings as lush and beautiful as these demos, but that's what they are. These reels preceded the band's Sub Pop debut I, Swinger, and contain early versions of most of that album along with songs you've never heard on record before!

Charlie Apicella & Iron City are a torch bearer of the classic guitar/organ sound and Groove Machine is a return to form for the New York guitarist's catchy, swinging original compositions. Straight out of the classic 1960s hard bop era and showcasing the band's deep interplay, the third recording by Apicella, organist Radam Schwartz, saxophonist Gene Ghee, and drummer Alan Korzin, is packed with burning solos, Charlie's tight arrangements, and an unrelenting groove that defines the character of Iron City. Special guests include Freddie Hendrix on trumpet, Mayra Casales on congas and violinist Amy Bateman.
