The album includes remixes from some of the best underground producers, leading with Machinedrum’s inspiring banner remix of ‘Papua Merdeka’, plus mixes from DJ Stingray, Skee Mask, Esa, Ehua, Project Pablo, Henrik Schwarz, On-U Sound, Mr Raoul K, J Saul Kane, Dom Valentino and Floyd Lavine.

Too Late for Edelweiss, The Tallest Man On Earth – the project of Swedish musician Kristian Matsson weaves together a sparse collection of home recordings made in Sweden and North Carolina, captured fresh off a 39-date run with the adrenaline of tour rattling through his veins. His first release since 2019’s I Love You. It’s A Fever Dream, and his signing to ANTI-, the songs on Too Late For Edelweiss have been with Matsson since he started playing music as The Tallest Man on Earth in 2006. In those early years, Matsson used to perform “Lost Highway” before he had enough songs to flesh out a full set.

Keleketla! is an expansive collaborative project, reaching outward from Johannesburg to London, Lagos, L.A. and West Papua, “Keleketla!” started as a musical meeting ground between Ninja Tune cofounders Coldcut and a cadre of South African musicians (introduced by the charity In Place Of War), including the raw, South African-accented jazz styles of Sibusile Xaba, and rapper Yugen Blakrok (Black Panther OST). From those initial sessions, the record grew to encompass a wider web of musical luminaries, including Afrobeat architects, the late pioneer Tony Allen and Dele Sosimi, legendary L.A. spoken word pioneers The Watts Prophets, and West Papuan activist Benny Wenda.

Since last September when we announced our collaboration with Billy Valentine, Bob Thiele Jr. and the Flying Dutchman label, with Billy’s peerless cover of Curtis Mayfield’s ‘We The People Who Are Darker Than Blue’, we have been looking forward to the moment when we could share more music with you.

The Banksia Trio's third album is a studio recording of the culmination of their live tour in the valley of the pandemic. In addition to five original compositions by the members, songs by Masaaki Kikuchi, Nick Drake, and Paul Motian were recorded on analog master tapes. In addition to the richness of overtones from the analog recordings, the hybrid use of high-resolution digital recording technology has achieved an extremely natural and nuanced sound expression.

‘Elusive Moments’ is the debut album of The Skypainters, an international ensemble from Groningen (The Netherlands and locally known as the “pearl of the north”). Band leader and guitarist Kirill Dumchenko (35) refers to the music as a mix of Modern Jazz music with influences from Classical music of the early 20th century, and contemporary Electronic music. “We are painting sounds that change in the moment.” Musically inspiration comes from Kurt Rosenwinkel, Brad Mehldau, Stravinsky, Prokovjev and Mussorgsky. Visually from impressionist painters as Van Gogh and Monet.

In FOLKSONGS from Duo Apollon, soprano Anastasia Malliaras and classical guitarist Aaron Haas conjure up pastoral scenes that appeal both for their universally human and unique cultural expressions. The album features the works of Maurice Ravel, Manuel de Falla, Benjamin Britten, and Mátyás Seiber, all of whom drew inspiration from a variety of folk music traditions. Ravel’s Cinq Mélodies Populaires Grecques, for example, recalls five Greek melodies from the island of Chios. Though Ravel set the songs in his native French, Duo Apollon performs them in the original Greek. Here, as in the rest of the album, the arrangement for voice and guitar results in strikingly intimate performances.

Mirare present a recording that is common to Philippe Hersant and Benoît Menut, two composers from different generations who have known each other well for twenty-five years - an idea that came to their minds with Benoît Menut’s desire to write for the Trio Karénine a concertante work with a similar length, format and instrumentation to that of Philippe Hersant, Chant de l’isolé. Thus was Depuis le Rivage created.
