The new album ‘Blue Label: Radio Rhythm’ was recorded in the same spirit and room as the previous one but going one step further in the process. Instead of having individual microphones for every instrument only one stereo microphone was used at the center (see video), positioning the musicians around it to achieve the ideal balance, an uncommon feat in today’s hyper-edited world. Amplified with a state of the art dual-channel tube preamp the signal was sent straight to analog tape.

The melodic metal band SIGNUM REGIS will release their first ever live album “Made in Switzerland” on CD and digital on June 10th via Beyond the Storm Productions. The album was recorded in Wiedlisbach, Switzerland last year and was mastered by Tony Lindgren (Amorphis, Dragonforce, Powerwolf).

When the world-renowned Canadian pianist came to Villingen in 1961, there was a mood of intense excitement all round. Hans-Georg Brunner-Schwer (HGBS), former owner of the hifi dynasty SABA who died in 2004, had just set up the first version of his studio, equipped with the most advanced recording technology of the time, above the living-room in his villa. Anna Kolchina's Wild is the Wind is a masterclass in ensemble performance. Backed by pianist John di Martino, bassist Peter Washington, and drummer Willie Jones, Kolchina is more an equal quartet member than a singer backed by a trio. This is experienced immediately on the title piece, where Kolchina's delicately-played voice peeks out from behind Washington's gentle bass playing as it directs the remainder of the arrangement. It is a stunningly organic musical effect that increases the intimacy of the performance greatly.
