Twelfth solo studio album by the legendary British heavy metal singer. His first album since 2010's 'Scream', it includes the singles 'Under the Graveyard', 'Straight to Hell' and the title track, which features Elton John. American rapper and singer Post Malone also features on the tracks 'It's a Raid' and 'Take What You Want'.

Renaud Capuçon, Gautier Capuçon and Frank Braley, well established as chamber-music partners, perform two of Beethoven’s greatest piano trios, the ‘Ghost’ and the ‘Archduke’. “Together, all three musicians have the quality that is the most priceless of all in playing chamber music,” wrote The Guardian when the Capuçons and Braley played the ‘Archduke’ at London’s Wigmore Hall, “they listen intently to each other and always take note of what they do. Their account of the Archduke Trio … had a tremendous sense of organic coherence.”

With its collection created in collaboration with the Academy of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Alpha continues to support new talents. The Esmé Quartet, consisting of four Korean women musicians, was founded in 2016 and is based in Germany. Its members have received guidance from Günter Pichler of the Alban Berg Quartett and Heime Müller of the Artemis Quartett, among others. In addition to winning the Prize of the Aix Festival Academy, they also received First Prize at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition in London.

Longstanding partners Sandrine Piau and Christophe Rousset have frequently performed the Stabat Mater, an emblematic work of the eighteenth-century Neapolitan repertory, both together and with other musicians. It was therefore a natural step for them to record this supreme masterpiece of sacred music. They are joined here by a relative newcomer to Les Talens Lyriques who has also become a regular partner with the ensemble, the American countertenor Christopher Lowrey (already heard on an Alpha disc devoted to Monteverdi, Alpha 216).

The most striking aspect of these Preludes by Chopin undertaken by Eric Lu is the absolutely lyrical tranquility that dominates the forty-minute-long journey which is so arduous to build fluidly and coherently. Eric Lu deserves admiration for the expressive and polyphonic unity that he brings to the cycle, which is usually more contrasted. The American’s playing resounds as his phrases transport you on a grand, noble journey of emotion. Behind this soft façade is a somewhat more tragic melancholy, which increases over the course of the album and reveals the sombre, or at the very least anxious nature of the 24 Preludes. Chopin is at his darkest romanticism, not too far removed from the Schumann of the Kreisleriana (April 1838).

In March this year, Thomas Adès, one of the most acclaimed and most frequently performed contemporary composers of our time, conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Kirill Gerstein performing the world premiere of his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra. Comissioned by the BSO for Kirill Gerstein the work already is becoming part of the concert repertoire worldwide.

While composing haunting, elegiac concept albums of lost utopias and working for TV and film the Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson was thinking about a project on an even larger scale since 2010 - a multimedia work that would include his own visual concept, direction and music.

Produced by Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, Conor Oberst, First Aid Kit), I’ll Get By firmly establishes the renowned bass vocalist as a generational songwriting talent in the mold of inspirations such as Fleet Foxes, Hozier, and Iron And Wine. Taj Mahal, a repository of the musical traditions of the West African Diaspora in the New World, teams with Hindustani wizard of the mohan vina, V.M. Bhatt and Karnatak virtuoso of the chitra vina, N. Ravikiran. Their interpretation of popular Afro-American songs drawn from various genres is a unique musical synthesis.

Another of Chet Atkins' attempts to break into the jazz world during his Columbia period, this recording veers well across the line into new age wallowing of the most innocuous kind.

The more the years pass, the more the importance and the originality of Henri Texier impose themselves on all the musicians, fellow travelers, or not. A wonderful combination of a great tradition of double bass and a modernism that has never been frightened of anything. Time passing seems to have no hold on his game: round, powerful and above all animated by an extraordinary awareness of rhythm. A high-flying cast and a sequence of scenes and landscapes that give the listener the certainty of a global scenario.

These recordings that celebrate those 20 years are aptly called The Independent Years. They are a collection of rare and unreleased recordings from live concerts and TV shows and demonstrate what it takes to be a successful musician and songwriter. Real talent is much rarer than people imagine. And in Paul Carrack that talent is here to be heard in all its raw emotion.
