Originally released in 1997, The Healing Game marked an important transition for Van Morrison. After a period of crafting romantic ballads that found mainstream success, Van felt once more compelled to revisit the jazz and rhythm and blues-inspired style that influenced his earliest work. To achieve this, he assembled a killer new band that included saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis, Georgie Fame and bassist Alec Dankworth.

The Norwegian Trombone Ensemble was formed in 2014 and consists of Audun Breen, Principal Trombone of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and Sverre Riise, Petter Winroth, and Clare Farr, the trombone section of the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. They are some of Norway's most outstanding trombonists and master most genres, from renaissance and baroque to contemporary, jazz and pop. Incantation holds many mysteries. The brilliant violinist Virgil Boutellis-Taft strips away the veil of its secret powers, the ones that lie inside his violin’s fascinating chant.

Viennese rising star Emmanuel Tjeknavorian presents his first orchestral album, featuring an unusual and yet highly personal programme. First there is his signature piece, Jean Sibelius’s Violin Concerto, which brought him not one but two prizes at the 2015 Sibelius Competition, and which has been his debut on international concert stages ever since. Then there is the Violin Concerto by his father, Loris Tjeknavorian, which he gives its world premiere on this recording.

Chansons and Broadway classics as well as tangos, waltzes and hits are interpreted. The wonderful voice of the singer Larissa Frank is underpinned by grooving double bass sounds played by Peter Wallner, and Tim Gabel’s danceable guitar rhythms peppered with virtuoso solo interludes.

45 years ago, Cat Stevens song “Peace Train” entered the stage, revealing the feel of the early seventies, which had been heavily affected by the anti-war movement against the threats of the ongoing Vietnam war as well as by the hippie culture with their ideals of love and peace. Nowadays, this seems to be a perished time. But, of course, the song is as relevant today as it has ever been. German pianist and composer Gerd Baier, who refers to Stevens song as an “imprint of my personal music history”, and who authors all songs of the new album “Nevertheless” by his trio formation gerdband aims for a similar call.

The poems by Christina Rossetti (1830 - 1894), an English poet who is not yet well known in Germany, are the basis for the original idea of ​​the new musical project by singer Eva Mayerhofer. The lyrical-sensual music of the composer and saxophonist Roger Hanschel forms the congenial counterpart for the setting. The compositions for voice, saxophone, string trio, double bass and percussion alternate between chamber music finesse and sophisticated, sophisticated grooves.
