Violinist Henryk Szeryng is accompanied by pianist Charles Reiner for this audiophile recording of compositional works by Bartok, Debussy, Novacek, Brahms, Marroquin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Leclair, Gluck, Vitali, and Locatelli.

At first glance, there seems to be a disparity between Ludwig van Beethoven’s thirty-two piano sonatas and only one pure piano sonata by Franz Liszt. But just as Hans von Bulow called the Beethoven sonatas the “New Testament of Pianists,” the B-minor piano sonata is one of the most important of Franz Liszt’s compositions in terms of its form, technical demands and content.

The Mendelssohn and Schumann Violin Concertos were recorded in Watford Town Hall, outside London, on July 3, and 5, 1964, respectively, on half-inch 3-track tape using three 201 Telefunken microphones. They were originally released as SR90406. The Bartók, Debussy, Nováček. Brahms, Marroquin and Rimsky-Korsakov pieces were recorded in Studio A of Fine Recording in New York on February 13 and 14, 1963, on 3-track half-inch tape, using three 201 Telefunken microphones, and released on SR90367.

Out of the Ordinary: The first thing one notices about Jukka Perko's instrumental trio Avara is its unusual set-up: saxophone, acoustic guitar and electric guitar. While that might seem an outlandish combination, the harmonic inventiveness and the lyricism on the album “Invisible Man” are often so completely jaw-dropping, one has to ask why it hasn’t been tried more often. The sound of the group is surprisingly dense for just three players, with each of the constituent voices supporting and complementing the others. Elegiac soundscapes reach out into the distance, evocatively shot through with sudden momentary flashes.

Now, with their fourth album, Tonbruket continue their adventure-loving expedition into the no man's land between the most divergent of musical directions with 'Forevergreens'. The four musicians are in no way about any kind of crossover, their goal is sensual internalization.

No other European jazz pianist has had such a formative influence in his field in recent years as the Swede Esbjörn Svensson, who died far too soon in 2008. In changing constellations, moods and interpretations, Iiro Rantala, Viktoria Tolstoy, Ulf Wakenius, Lars Danielsson and Morten Lund take on some of the best-known Svensson respectively e.s.t. works. And if the album title “Tears For Esbjörn” becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy upon hearing Svensson’s most emotional piece “Love Is Real” nobody needs to be ashamed; neither for tears of sadness at the irreplaceable loss of Esbjörn Svensson, nor for tears of joy at the music he left us with.

Right in time for Nils Landgren's 60th birthday celebration the most elaborate project of his unparalleled career will be published. This album includes the music of musicals like 'West Side Story and a phenomenal line-up, among others his All-Star band, Bochumer Symphoniker and singer Janis Siegel of the legendary 'The Manhatten Transfer'. Together with conductor and arranger Vince Mendoza they build a memorial for a friend of Jazz and great composer of the 20th century, Leonard Bernstein.

David Byrne announced his forthcoming solo record, American Utopia, during a presentation of "Reasons To Be Cheerful," an ongoing series curated by Byrne of hopeful writings, photos, music, and lectures. American Utopia will be released March 9, 2018, via Todomundo / Nonesuch Records, accompanied by a world tour that will bring a choreographed concert that Byrne has called "the most ambitious show I've done since the shows that were filmed for Stop Making Sense." Although the present album is the quintet’s debut, it could maybe be seen as their second one, since the band evolved out of the formation that had recorded Rendell’s Roarin’ album four years previously. Featuring the amazing Ian Carr on trumpet and the well-travelled Trevor Tomkins on drums, the quintet being completed by a usual-suspect of Green on bass and Purbrook on piano, although the latter’s departure would be the only line-up change in the quintet’s history. Some of these members were also involved in the cross-town rivals, The New Jazz Orchestra, and together, these two groups will carry more or less the who’s who of the next 15 or 20 years of the country’s jazz scene.

A grey-area reissue of this legendary album: the magnificent Dusk Fire album recorded in 1966. Rightly considered a masterpiece of British Jazz, cool and quirky finishing on a high with Michael Garrick's powerful composition Dusk Fire. Rendell/ Carr Quintet shows how far British jazz in the second half of the ’60s had taken new directions. Not a jazz songbook standard in sight, moving away from the usual jazz conventions, heads and solos, rhythm section down in the engine room, improvised virtuosity of the soloists. The writing is more structured, a pictorial composition, storytelling, replete with literary allusions.

Many have tried - and failed - to reissue these albums by legitimate means. However, two decades since our initial approach, Universal Music has gone to great lengths to research their vast archives, and we have finally managed to succeed.

A jazz event… and a packet of crisps, please! The energy exuded by the group bounces off the walls and magnifies their imaginative enthusiasm to new heights. Apparently the original tape wasn’t in the best condition, so what we have here is a fine piece of archival reconstruction, though the slightly forward tone remains to ensure that we get to hear all of the instruments clearly. A nice chance to hear Carr and Rendell let off the leash.

A grey-area edition of the legendary Phase III album, another iconic recording featuring this famous quintet. A real lost treasure from the legendary Don Rendell and Ian Carr– a set that stands strongly with all of his classic albums of the late 60s, but which is issued here for the first time ever! It features the outstanding 'Black Marigolds' tunes, that more of a raga in it’s composition the track was inspired by a 2000 year old Indian story which perhaps shows some insight into the Eastern influences that were proliferating throughout many genres at the time.

This new trio album with Peter Erskine (drums) and Lars Danielsson (bass) constitutes a many-faceted summing-up of a happy and resoundingly creative phase of Rantala’s life.

The night of May 12, 2002, may go down as another important milestone on the timeline of legendary jazz trumpeter Miles Davis. Four musicians, each representing a different Miles Davis band from his ever-evolving career, came together at the club Makor in New York City to do what everybody said couldn't be done - effectively fuse together elements of the radically different styles that Miles embodied over his 45 years of professional performance.
