'Mirror in Mirror' is the most personal recording to date by best-selling violinist Anne Akiko Meyers, a reflective and spiritual journey that weaves a beautiful story through commissions and arrangements by Philip Glass, John Corigliano, Jakob Ciupinski and Morten Lauridsen, alongside works by Arvo Part and Maurice Ravel.

Niccolò Paganini is possibly the only figure in the field of classical music whose name has become a household word, equivalent with an almost supernatural excellence in any kind of human endeavour: from soccer to stock market analysis or haute cuisine. In a similar way, the last of his 24 Caprices has entered popular culture in a way that few other classical pieces have, its theme reused by musicians as diverse as Benny Goodman, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Yngwie Malmsteen.

Beethoven’s Opus 2, published in Wien in March 1796, is the first work in which the composer’s strong personality is declared. Accordingly to Carli Ballola, Piano Sonatas Op. 2 are the manifesto of the style that the composer achieved in the early XVIII century and that will be characterizing of the following years: this is, according to Lenz, the so-called "Early Beethovenian period".

When the clergyman Peter Kohlgraf succeeded the extremely popular Bishop of Mainz Cardinal Karl Lehmann in 2017, he requested a performance of Anton Bruckner’s F minor Mass by Domkapellmeister Karsten Storck and his musicians. This album is a live recording of the concert on 29 April 2018, about which the critic from the Allgemeine Zeitung Mainz wrote: it was “filled with moments of a heavenly beauty of sound.

Contact is the third and final part of Flemish musician and composer Guy Van Nueten's piano trilogy 'Pacman". With Contact, Van Nueten has come up with his most mature work to date. Through recording his compositions in one take he allowed for a unity of time and space. This is a reaction against the frequent cutting and processing that takes place during recordings, whereby original emotions become diluted and the distance between music and listener increases. "I don't know what happened with me," says Van Nueten, "but with this record I've delved deep. I raised the bar higher than ever. This is the crowning glory."

The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner is the third and final studio album released by Ben Folds Five before their break up in 2000. Folds’ unique and clever piano-based songwriting shines through on the album, with songs and arrangements that reflect his evolving artistic development. The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner, with its title humorously taken from the name used on drummer Darren Jessee’s former teenage fake ID, includes singles “Army” and “Don’t Change Your Plans,” and is regarded by the composer himself as the band's “best work.”

Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson, together they comprised of the outlaw country supergroup The Highwaymen. Their greatest hits song, "Silver Stallion" was the first single. This is the second Highwayman album recorded in 1990 and was nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Vocal Collaboration.

Leonard Berstein leads the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in this recording of Mendelssohn's Fourth and Fifth Symphonies, bringing his passionate and fervent interpretations to these Romantic, picturesque works.

The album is a body of work which sees Dexys putting their heart and soul into every track that Kevin Rowland has wanted to do since the mid-1980s. Drawing on Rowland and co-producer/core band member Sean Read’s Irish roots, the album is a combination of their interpretations of Irish songs and other select compositions. Each song has been given at least the same level of attention and care as any of their own songs would be. This record is not a stop gap, or a fill in album. It is not a covers album.

For this innovative attempt to bridge the gap between art song and pop song, John Paul Jones (of Led Zeppelin fame), Sting and Genesis-keyboardist Tony Banks were commissioned to write new lute songs, and these are premiered on 'Amores Pasados' alongside music by English composers ranging from Thomas Campion to Peter Warlock.

Austrian pianist Till Fellner whose two Bach albums on ECM have won him unanimous international acclaim teams up with conductor Kent Nagano and his Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal for a sensitive and meticulous interpretation of Beethoven’s much-loved piano concertos Nos. 4 and 5. In a review to be published in the March issue of ‘Fanfare’ Jerry Dubins speaks of a “stunning achievement” and points out that “the recording has a fullness, depth, and solidity to it that are equal to the very best modern technology has to offer.”

The evocative ECM debut of the outstanding Hungarian guitarist Zsófia Boros addresses a broad range of composition for her instrument, drawing on music of the Americas. “Often I think I am holding the choice of music in my own hands, but later I wonder if the music has chosen me as a medium. My approach is always very intuitive; when a piece of music grips or touches me, I want to reflect it – to become a mirror and convey it.” At the centre of “En otra parte” is music of Leo Brouwer, the Cuban composer who once declared that the guitar has “no limits”, a major reference for Boros from the beginning of her musical journey.

Guitarist Pablo Márquez celebrates the work of a remarkable figure in Argentinean music: Gustavo “Cuchi” Leguizamón. Leguizamón (1917-2000) was a composer, pianist, guitarist, poet - and also a lawyer and teacher in the city of Salta where Márquez grew up. It was in his teaching capacity that Márquez first encountered him in person: “He was my history teacher at the Collegio Nacional when I was thirteen years old. When I saw Dr Gustavo Leguizamón come into the classroom for the first time, I had no idea that I was in the presence of one of Argentina’s greatest musicians, the composer of famous zambas I’d known and sung since early childhood. Cuchi liked to say that ‘the ultimate accolade for an artist is that people think his work is anonymous’.”

Kim Kashkashian introduces a duo with Russian composer-pianist Lera Auerbach. Their first collaborative recording features Auerbach’s viola and piano version of Dmitri Shostakovich’s 24 Preludes op. 34, and Auerbach’s own, darker, sonata for viola and piano, Arcanum. The musicians first met at Switzerland’s Verbier Festival in 2010, although Auerbach had long been aware of Kashkashian’s recordings, and the “quality of life-or-death-intensity to her performing, which is rare and wonderful.” Arcanum, accordingly, was written for Kashkashian.
