When last we heard from Brooklyn composer-saxophonist Marcus Strickland, on 2016's Nihil Novi, he was testing his mettle at hip-hop-inspired production, blending genres with a little help from album producer Meshell Ndegeocello. In the process, something big happened: "I was no longer concerned about what is or isn't jazz," he says. "I got rid of those barriers and was like, 'Well, who the fuck am I?' That's when I started on this path." On his thrilling new LP, People of the Sun, Strickland blazes down that trail fully at the helm of his music—performing, writing, and producing with his outrageously able Twi-Life band on deck—even as he sonically and socially traces the African diaspora from present to past in an effort to unpack his identity.

Originally from New York, Reggie Washington is one of Europe’s busiest musicians. He was a key participant in the Modern Jazz revolution of the 80’s and 90’s and his list of credits include touring, recording and performing with musicians such as Steve Coleman, Branford Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Chico Hamilton, Oliver Lake, Cassandra Wilson and Lester Bowie. In addition to his work as a side-man Reggie is also well known as a leader having produced five CDs under his own name including this coming release.

Oskar Lindström Trio Oskar Lindström Trio - Fugue Oskar Lindström is one of Sweden´s most captivating young pianists and composers. Being nominated by Swedish national radio as "newcomer of the year" in 2017 he now releases his debut album as a leader. "Fugue" exclusively features Lindström´s distinctly lyrical original compositions, drawing inspiration from the strong tradition of Nordic pianotrios as well as folk music and chorales. Alongside Lindström´s personal and precise touch on the piano, fellow Swedish musicians Eirik Lund and Filip Olofsson, having backgrounds in various styles of music apart from jazz, offer an intriguing addition to the musical discourse.

From the retro-futuristic cover art by Stranger Things poster designer Kyle Lambert to lyrical themes of oppression, the English band’s eighth album, Simulation Theory, plays like an ’80s sci-fi flick. The opening set of songs lays out a bleak setting: “Algorithim” and “The Dark Side” are cries for help set against caterwauling synth-rock.
