Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven" put classical disco on the map. It helped that Beethoven's symphony had a heavy percussion feel, which Murphy cranked up a couple of notches with his amazing ingenuity. Other selections, while creatively different, are just as good, but didn't burn a hole in the charts like "Fifth." "Suite Love Symphony," "Flight '76," "California Strut," and "Russian Dressing" will expand your mind and quench your musical thirst at the same time. "Midnight Express" is fine European boogie, while the horn-laden "Get a Little Lovin'" is a funky thing. It's always a nice trick when artists can define a genre with a single song, and Murphy did that. Even better when they can follow it up with an album that expands on that song's charms and delivers a satisfying listening experience. A Fifth of Beethoven does that with unerring style and class and stands as one of the high points of the disco era.

Without really stretching himself, Cropper plays the series of soul and funk originals on this disc adequately, but rarely instilling the passion and inventiveness of his recordings with Booker T. & The MG's. The various "guest" vocalists also pale in comparison to the Stax greats, but they do an adequate enough job. The title cut is the only time when sparks fly, and arguably the only track where Cropper contributes something original and truly captivating. "Night After Night" indicates that Cropper was not washed up without significant players around him, but this release adds little to his impressive body of work.

The prime symbol of Red Goddess (Of This Men Shall Know Nothing), is mugwort. A herb associated with dreaming, travel and menstruation, mugwort particularly favors edgelands: those abandoned, untended places, part man-made, part rural, where nature begins to reclaim what humanity has left behind. The music here unfolds a mandala of symbolism from these liminal spaces, drawn from a web of fascinations which unfolded during the recording process.

According to McCafferty the music on their sophomore album serves as a metaphor for yarn, "a long rambling story that is incoherent and just sort of goes on." This group uses suspenseful and horror-infused electronic elements to create punk songs with a musical punch and lyrics with shock value as the main focus. “One of the definitions of ‘yarn’ is a long, rambling story that is incoherent and just sort of goes on,” Hartkop explains. “I think that really defines McCafferty. No matter how many times we tried to put it down, it’s come back up. The band wasn’t done with us. It was calling us back for a reason.”

Extracted from and expanding upon the sessions of 2017's The Centre Cannot Hold with new tracks and remixes, All That You Love Will Be Eviscerated continues Frost's journey into more lively, angular forms of colossal sheets of noise. No longer defined by the tidal roar of 2009's By The Throat, the Iceland-based Australian composer's work now feels like the distorted hyper-colour beauty and dynamics of Tim Hecker's recent work filtered through the earth-splitting amplification of Lawrence English's last handful of years. (The topographical crunch of 2015's The Peregrine reissue feels like a particular touchstone.)

‘Paul, Apostle of Christ’, the upcoming American biblical drama film, is written and directed by Andrew Hyatt with music by Jan A. P. Kaczmarek. Kaczmarek is a composer with a tremendous international reputation that continues to flourish. As a successful recording artist and touring musician, Kaczmarek turned to composing film scores as his primary occupation. In February 2005, he won his first Oscar for Best Original Score on Marc Forster’s highly acclaimed film, ‘Finding Neverland’. Kaczmarek also won The National Review Board’s award for Best Score of the Year, and was nominated for both a Golden Globe and BAFTA’s Anthony Asquith Award for Achievement in Film Music.

Canada natives High Valley made a splash on the country music scene with their debut album, Dear Life. The brother-duo comprised of Curtis and Brad Rempel have seen much success with their introduction to the United States with their singles “Make You Mine” and Top 15 “She’s With Me.” To celebrate the music and their fans, the duo has decided to release an acoustic album, featuring select songs from Dear Life. Aptly named High Valley: Farmhouse Sessions, the seven-song project was recorded in their farmhouse outside of Nashville.
