Olga Pashchenko makes a conspicuous entrance in the Alpha catalogue with a disc devoted entirely to Beethoven. One will remember her interpretation of Opus 111, released by Fuga Libera, of which the appropriateness and maturity left a powerful impression. In this new recording, Olga Pashchenko has chosen to combine the two Opus 49 sonatas and three sets of variations, thus tackling what are commonly called ‘smaller forms’ but which remain major Beethoven works nonetheless.

The Zig-Zag Territoires label, like the Outhere Music group of which it is a part, is particularly attentive to the emergence and support of new talents, of which this CD, the first by the young pianist Andrew Tyson, is a good illustration. But it is also much more than that for it bears witness to the interpretation, already enlightening, of a very great talent and to the birth, on disc, of a singular, poetic voice.

When the Allman Brothers Band’s fifth album, Brothers and Sisters, was released on Capricorn Records in August 1973, the legendary southern blues-rock group had already achieved world-wide fame with their 1971 live album, At Fillmore East. This success was followed by the tragic loss of their founder, leader and musical visionary, guitarist Duane Allman, who died in a motorcycle crash on October 29, 1971. While regrouping under the leadership of singer/organist Gregg Allman and guitarist/vocalist Dickey Betts, The Allman Brothers Band soldiered on with Brothers and Sisters, which turned out to be their most successful recording to date.

Since the dawn of time, night and its mysteries have inspired poets and musicians. This recital for voice and piano recalls that: it is presented as a nocturnal promenade through diverse aesthetics, troubling atmospheres and profoundly contrasting emotions. Kids In The Street is the 7th and latest album from American roots troubadour, Justin Townes Earle. After marrying, moving to various corners of the country and continuous touring with both full band and solo, Earle made time to reflect on the past few years and find new clarity. With Kids In The Street, he made a conscious decision to work with a producer for the first time in his now decade-long career. Earle made the trip to Omaha,Nebraska to work with Mike Mogis (First Aid Kit, M.Ward, Connor Oberst) at ARC Studios. Together, they hand picked musicians to create a new sound and environment for the songs that speaks to Justin's roots, musically and personally. This creative collaboration, paired with Justin's longtime guitarist Paul Niehaus, has resulted in an album that takes a big step forward.

This lyrical jazz/classical crossover set from the Israeli composer, bassist and singer glows with seductive songs, from its luxuriously harmonised classical overture, via Israeli and Sephardic folk materials to his quietly ecstatic folk-vocal finale. Almah also features pianist Nitai Hershkovits, drummer Ofri Nehemya, and the unique oboe and cor anglais improviser Yoram Lachish, alongside violin, violas and cello. Mozart and Beethoven were the same age when they wrote the pieces assembled here. The tempestuous enthusiasm of their 27 years of age clearly shines in this music. Indeed, their youth and vitality sparkle, but so does also the incandescent youth of the pianoforte, which had finally reached its full potential.
