The repertoire of this second album is a continuation of the first. My approach has not changed, I'm always looking for a music rooted in non-Western musical traditions and turned towards the unknown, this new music that we created in spontaneity. My music is a reflection of this mad world of extreme violence and beauty. She talks about the rage, the revolt, the pain and the war but also the love and the courage of the men and women with whom I have the feeling to share an identity, a will or just a hope. I speak of the pain of a people because it is also my pain, the courage of a village because I admire it, or a love that I have lived because others have experienced it also. I express feelings that belong to everyone because they belong to me too, or personal stories that could be those of others.

Recorded in 1955, this superbly arranged and sung set of slow ballads can lay claim to being the world's first 'concept album.' Of course, in classical music, song cycles had been around since Schubert, but a whole set of pop tunes arranged around a central theme or mood was something new in popular music. With the advent of the LP in 1953, commercial pop music was beginning to take itself seriously.

Melissa Etheridge has announced the release of her new album MEmphis Rock and Soul, a tribute to Stax Records and the rich history of classic Southern soul, scheduled for release on October 7, 2016 via Stax Records, a division of Concord Music Group. The album is a collection of deep soul covers associated with the original Stax label, including songs recorded by Otis Redding, Rufus Thomas, The Staple Singers, William Bell and more. The album also features new, original verses written by Melissa on two of the tracks.

Kenny Barron is often called the “pianist’s pianist.” Elegant, sensitive and lyrical, Barron’s impeccable keyboard skills have made him a favorite of jazz fans everywhere for over forty years and forty albums. A native of Philadelphia, Barron was still a teenager when he first started working with many of the jazz greats, including Philly Joe Jones, Lee Morgan, Roy Haynes, and Dizzy Gillespie. In the ’80s, he co-founded the jazz super group Sphere, a tribute to Thelonious Monk. He also entered into a long association with saxophone legend Stan Getz while continuing to lead his own groups, often in the classic piano trio configuration.

Legendary soul singer and songwriter William Bell has returned to his original home, Stax Records, for the appropriately titled This Is Where I Live, his first major release in almost four decades, out June 3rd, 2016. Known for writing and performing several soul standards – 'You Don’t Miss Your Water,” 'Private Number,” 'Every Day Will Be Like a Holiday,” and 'I Forgot To Be Your Lover” among them – Bell co-wrote most of the songs on This Is Where I Live with GRAMMY-winner John Leventhal, who also produced the album. Additional co-writing contributors are Marc Cohn, Rosanne Cash, Cory Chisel and Scott Bomar.

Fun in Acapulco in many ways was a very succesful soundtrack of a Presley movie for a reason apart from its original sales. The Latin feeling and its uncompromising south of the border beat seem to provide a platform of very exciting tunes, fresh either in performance either in song presentation. Even the ever considered silly tune "(There's) No Room To Rhumba In A Sports Car" holds an utterly playful performance that requires to be taken for what it really is, a happy tune.
