The partnership of the young and dynamic Daniel Barenboim with Otto Klemperer, a veteran not known for his readiness to compromise, proved a revelation. As Barenboim says, Klemperer – considered the greatest Beethoven conductor of his time – “approached the essence of what he wanted directly and without hesitation”. The fruit of their collaboration in 1967 was this vivid and inspiring set of the Beethoven Piano Concertos.

Goffredo Petrassi’s reputation was established in 1932 when his Partita (available on Naxos 8.572411) won critical acclaim. Petrassi then composed his Concerto for Orchestra, the first of eight, which, upon its 1935 premiere, secured his reputation outside of Italy. The Second Concerto from 1951 reveals more avante-garde tendencies, while the Third Concerto from 1952–53 is animated and playful.

Klára Würtz is among the more important pianists to have emerged from the latter decades of the 20th century. Hungarian-born, Amsterdam-based, she has, since the early '90s, made numerous tours of the United States and Canada while also appearing throughout Holland and elsewhere in Europe. If her repertory generally excludes Baroque as well as contemporary music, it is broad still, taking in all the sonatas of Mozart and large chunks of the outputs of Schubert, Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Bartók, Debussy, and many others. Würtz has made numerous recordings for a variety of labels, including Brilliant Classics, Regis Records, and Globe. Würtz was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1965. She was a child prodigy: she first sat down at the piano at age five and soon became an extraordinarily accomplished player.

T2 were a British progressive rock band, best known for their 1970 album, It'll All Work Out in Boomland. It is generally regarded as an excellent album. T2 evolved from an earlier band, Neon Pearl, which was led by their drummer, Pete Dunton. Dunton was by 1968 a member of Please, which also included fellow Neon Pearl member Bernard Jinks. When that band broke up in 1969, due to Dunton's joining Gun alongside Adrian Gurvitz, Jinks became a member of Bulldog Breed. 1990s It'll All Work Out in Boomland was issued on CD format by the German label World Wide Records, remastered from the original recording tapes. However, apparently both the original mix down information and the original mix down tapes had been lost, and as a result there are some minor aural differences between the LP and CD versions.

Abandon is the sixteenth studio album by the British hard rock band Deep Purple, released in the Spring of 1998. It was Deep Purple's second album with Steve Morse on guitar and the last album to feature founding member Jon Lord prior to his departure in 2002. The album was followed by a successful 1998/1999 world tour which brought Deep Purple to Australia for the first time in 15 years. The album title is actually a pun from Ian Gillan – "A Band On" – and the album was followed by the "A Band on Tour". Uniquely for a Deep Purple studio album, it features a reworking of a previously recorded song -"Bloodsucker" from Deep Purple in Rock (here re-titled "Bludsucker"). "Don't Make Me Happy" was mistakenly mastered in mono, and not amended on the final release. One of the two versions of the song released on promo single was, however, mastered in stereo.

The overdue revival of interest in Mieczysław Weinberg has focused on his chamber and orchestral music, with periodic revivals of pivotal operas such as The Passenger. As this new recording illustrates, song was no less significant as a facet of his creative personality, beginning with the cycle of Akazie (Acacias), which the 21-year-old Weinberg composed in 1940, having lately fled Warsaw and briefly settled in Minsk.Each a minute or two long, the six Akazie unleash a passion out of proportion to their brevity. Weinberg later said that he wrote them as a distraction from the tragedy around him, but they speak of their time in their angular, expressionist vocal writing and supple, chromatic accompaniments. Most of the Jewish Songs Op.13 are similarly concise and direct, though their alternative title of ‘Children’s Songs’ hints at the lighter and more playful idiom.
