Considered as one of the most important Spanish composers of his time, together with Victoria and Morales, Guerrero’s music has very rarely been recorded. This magnificent music comes now to the light in its full splendour and glory. This CD contains motets and hymns chosen primarily for their great interest and outstanding quality. The purity and the spirit of this music deserve to be discovered by the most exigent music lovers.

For sci-fi lovers the world over, Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is sacred text, so it comes as no surprise that its arrival on celluloid has been met with considerably furrowed brows, especially in the wake of its author's death – Adams suffered a fatal heart attack in 2001 in the midst of writing the screenplay. However, if the film's gloriously skewed and occasionally beautiful soundtrack is any indication, the Guide is in good hands. Director Garth Jennings tapped the considerable talents of award-winning U.K. composer/arranger and Divine Comedy member Jobi Talbot to swing the baton, and his reverence for the source material is evident from the very first note. Using Stephen Fry's wry summary of marine life's misunderstood intelligence to set the stage, Talbot unleashes – along with a chorus that includes a bawdy choir, a little girl, and an opera singer – "So Long & Thanks for All the Fish," a rousing, Broadway-style farewell to the planet (and its befuddled citizens) that's equal parts Rocky Horror and Monty Python. Mischief and Creativity are the muses here, as Talbot makes the "Destruction of Earth" sound both terrifying and irreverent – it launches into the banjo-led "Journey of the Sorcerer" that sounds like an updated version of "Classical Gas" – before introducing "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" in a swirl of electronic melodiousness.

Following his ‘glorious’ Shostakovich concertos recording which was named a BBC Music Magazine Concerto Choice, Simon Trpčeski releases his first solo piano album for Linn. Hailed for his powerful virtuosity, deeply expressive approach and charismatic stage presence, the pianist has recorded five sets of variations by Mozart, Brahms and Beethoven.

German project Yacobs is the solo vehicle of drummer Ulf Jacobs. He is or has been a member of bands such as Bad Penny, Mutabor, Timeless and Friends, Martingo, Lousy Lovers and Argos, and have contributed on solo albums by artists such as Samira, Rico Florczak and Axl Makana. The fifth album "Clouds" is another conceptional work. It lets you see things different, from the richness of light to the fear of the dark. The music is contemporary Progressive rock with lots of Mellotron, Prophet, Roland CR78 and opulent drumming as well as modern ambient sounds, featuring by Thomas Klarmann (Argos) on bass and Àkos Bogati-Bokor (Yesterdays) on guitar.

Ruth Gipps (1921 – 1999) was born in the English seaside resort of Bexhill-on-Sea. Encouraged as a child by an ambitious pianist mother, she appeared locally as a prodigy pianist. She was accepted by the Royal College of Music in 1937, at the age of sixteen, having won the Caird Scholarship. She quickly matured, both as composer and pianist. She studied with Vaughan Williams and Gordon Jacob, and later the oboe with Leon Goossens. During the Second World War she gained a position as oboist with the City of Birmingham Orchestra and devoted a great deal of her time to composing. Three of the works on this album were composed during the war: the Oboe Concerto, the tone poem Death on the Pale Horse, and the overture Chanticleer (derived from an opera which, sadly, she never completed).
