Never Too Late is best remembered today as drummer John Coghlan's final album with the band he'd served since the early '60s. The bulk of the set, however, was actually cut during the same sessions that produced the previous year's Just Supposin', although it's a struggle to say which of the two came out with the better songs. Neither is what one would describe as a classic Quo disc, but nor are they as disposable as some of the band's later releases. Indeed, any record that includes the bright bonhomie of "Something 'Bout You Baby I Like," the new album's biggest hit, is sure to have a few things to recommend it.

Igor Markevitch and Serge Diaghilev shared a passionate love story, interrupted by the impresario’s sudden death in 1929. Years later, having become an accomplished conductor, Markevitch paid homage to his mentor with a triple LP Homage to Diaghilev including highlights of stage works performed by the Ballets russes. We release here an abridged version, including some of the best pages of the ballet literature (Swan Lake, Les sylphides…) and the uncommon Good-Humoured Ladies, a lovely pasticcio by Tommasini after Scarlatti’s sonatas.

After 5 years of performances around the world in venues large and small, the choicest ensembles have gone into the studio and the recordings are finally being made available in a series of limited edition 4-CD BOX sets. Each set will present four ensembles performing a unique program of Zorn’s Bagatelles.

Persecution of the innocent, malevolent authority exerting itself against ideas that threaten and challenge, the power of a peaceful, loving humility in the face of tyranny, the facing-down of fear; all hold profound universal resonance for people of many faiths and those of none. Such is the power of the Passion story, and in his new work, Invictus: A Passion, multi-award-winning composer Howard Goodall has found a route directly to people's hearts, telling the story afresh through his choice of thought provoking texts combined with heart-rending yet inspiring music.

The "Office of Fools" was a popular festival featuring theatre, games and dressing-up, a pagan rite whose abuses and excesses the Church tried to control until its disappearance in the 16th century. The vocal and instrumental ensemble Obsidienne, using a manuscript in the library at Sens as its basis, performs a variety of medieval repertoires inspired by this jubilant traditional feast with its disorderliness and inversion of values.

On this album Danny Driver brings his impeccable pianism, consummate style and imagination to Schumann's Novelletten and Nachtstucke, less wellknown sets from his extraordinary output for the piano. Schumann wrote Nachtstucke upon the death of his brother, and would have entitled it Corpse Fantasia were it not for Clara's intervention. The eight pieces of the Novelletten form what is at once the largest and the least known among Schumann's major piano cycles.

After the turn toward a more accessible sound that Rockin' All Over the World supposed, the British band returned to its hard rock approach on its next work. If You Can't Stand the Heat isn't so hard and heavy as Quo or Blue for You, but it incorporates subjects – the electric guitars filling everywhere again, the groovy boogie spirit – that recover the rocking essence they seem to have lost only one year before.

When Bobby 'Blue' Bland was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, he seemed genuinely surprised at the honour. 'I'm doing the same thing I've been doing all my life. My audience just seemed to catch up with me.' 'Though he possessed gifts on a par with his most accomplished peers,' said the New York Post in its obituary, 'Bland never achieved the popular acclaim enjoyed by contemporaries like Ray Charles and BB King. But he was nevertheless a mainstay on the rhythm and blues charts and club circuit for decades.' Hopefully this three-disc set of his Duke Records output from 1952-'62 will stay on your playlist, dear listener, for many years to come.

"Color Wheel" feels like a step forward for the band in every way. We tapped into a distinctly more emotional and purposeful space when writing it, and there’s a raw honesty throughout the album’s lyrics and themes that I think a lot of people can relate to, too. Though some of those themes are a little heavier, there’s a constant thread of hopeful optimism that we hope people will really connect with. Musically, the band has evolved and this album finds us exploring some new and very exciting musical lanes, too. The whole album, meant to be listened to in order, feels much like a continuing story or narrative, and the music unfolds as such.

The essence of the mountain becomes sound. The vastness of the view becomes melody. Growing up at the foot of the Alps, mountaineering is a natural need for the instrumental artist Mulo Francel. ''Up here, the mind gains a generous attitude. The problems and proportions of everyday life stay in the valley.'' Over several years, in different countries, Mulo Francel climbed with musical friends*. Sometimes arduous, but always in good spirits. Always with high quality recording equipment. Always with an instrument.

Farout is a progressive/jazz rock band from Lappeenranta, Finland. It was founded in 1977 and was active until 1982 with various setups. Farout was the progressive rock champion in the Finnish Rock music contest in spring 1978. The band recorded their only LP-record so far for Kompass Records at Birdland Studios, Mellunmaki, Helsinki, in 1979. The creditable record engineering was done by Dan Tigersted, the studio guru of those days. He recorded the material on an 8-track recorder during five long working days.
The tenor saxophone and flute player, late Pekka Poyry guest starred on the record. Poyry, who died in 1980, became well known for his credits with e.g. Tasavallan Presidentti and Jukka Tolonen Band among numerous other recordings…

Growing up on the mean streets of Sydney, Hempton and the Jazz School system didn’t see eye to eye, and he learnt to play jazz the old-fashioned way: jam sessions at local clubs and late night practice sessions on Sydney’s famous Harbour Bridge. A year at sea working on the cruise ships raised the funds for a flight, and in January 2004 he touched down in NYC.

Lullaby in Rhythm: A Tribute to June Christy is Stephanie Nakasian's fifth album as leader. It was released in 2002. Nakasian was inspired to record a tribute to jazz vocalist June Christy following her appearance singing Christy's songs alongside Pete Rugolo at the Jazz West Coast Festival, which was hosted by the Los Angeles Jazz Institute in Newport Beach, California. All of the songs were arranged by Nakasian and Hod O'Brien.

Steve Tyrell has attracted enough attention for his two regular albums, A New Standard and Standard Time, that he is almost beyond journalists' usual tack of describing a new singer's voice by who he sounds like; pretty soon, they'll be saying that other singers sound like him. But it remains true that if you have never heard him but you are familiar with Dr. John, your first reaction upon hearing him is likely to be that you are listening to Dr. John. Well, maybe a younger Dr. John, and one whose accent isn't quite as swampy. But the basic elements – the grit and gravel in the tone, the slurred, deep South phrasing – are much the same.
