Nine extraordinary meditations by one of the twentieth century’s musical titans, performed on the magnificent King’s College Chapel organ by former organ scholar Richard Gowers.

Johan Agrell was in many ways a traveler between the worlds: in Uppsala, the Swede’s great talent was recognized by the Hessian envoy, which resulted in Agrell being summoned to a court near Kassel in Germany. He later went as municipal chapel-master to Nuremberg.

We present The Juniper Project in their debut duo recording in the format of a concert recital with a variety of Romantic and modern works from Debussy to Lutosƚawski. The album title is named for the Lutosƚawski but also to represent the inclusion of highlight movements from works by Marson and Rutter.

Here's a new album that brings together two of Canada's most prominent young musicians, Andrew Wan, concertmaster of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal since 2008, and Charles Richard-Hamelin, Silver medalist and winner of the Krystian Zimerman award at the International Chopin Piano Competition in 2015. For this first studio collaboration, they recorded the three sonatas of Beethoven's Op. 30, one of the most important works for violin and piano.

Jesús Bal y Gay (Lugo 1905 – Madrid 1993) and Salvador Bacarisse (Madrid 1898 – Paris 1963) were two musicians and intellectuals who belonged to the group known as the Generation of ‘27. Having received their education in Spain, they went into exile as a consequence of the atrocities of the Civil War that Spain suffered between 1936 and 1939.

The programme offers a fascinating journey through the sacred and the secular, delving into the lives of two major figures of the musical milieu in Bologna in the mid-17th century: Maurizio Cazzati (1616- 1678) and Carlo Donato Cossoni (1623-1700).

This album is a journey through 100 years of Cuban classical piano music, much of it never before recorded. The story begins with Gottschalk’s years in Cuba and is told chronologically as each important pianist-composer influenced by Gottschalk passes this influence on to the next generation, starting with Saumell to Espadero to Cervantes to de Blanck to Ernesto Lecuona and to his distinguished composer sister, Ernestina.

From the waltz to the French cancan to the ballet, this program by the Orchestre symphonique de Québec under the baton of conductor Fabien Gabel illustrates the perfect symbiosis between dance and French music. On the menu: Maurice Ravel’s Valses nobles et sentimentales; Jacques Offenbach’s suite Gaîté Parisienne, arranged by Manuel Rosenthal; and the suite Les Biches by Francis Poulenc.

The Russian violinist Evgeny Sviridov, winner of the MA Festival Bruges Competition in 2017, has chosen to devote his first recording to the sonatas of Giuseppe Tartini. As heir to the Baroque tradition of the early eighteenth century, Tartini developed technical concepts much bolder than those of his predecessors, thus preparing the violin for the language of the Classical period. His treatise served as a model for Leopold Mozart and his reputation was still very much alive in the Romantic era, which continued to propagate the famous anecdote of his dream during which the Devil suggested to him how to perform reputedly impossible trills…

Italian jazz pianist Massimiliano Coclite presents Strange People, a collection of deeply personal works which have evolved over time, the album’s concept coalescing during the recording process itself. The musicians collaborating on this release – adding saxophones, bass and drums to Coclite’s piano – share a similar vision of how the music should breathe, creating a soft, spaciousness of sound, drawing the listener into a musical journey of bewitching musical narratives. This is music of mystery, of strangers meeting, of enigmatic feelings hinted at but not always expressed; of introspection and intrigue. A haunting, crepuscular soundworld of seductive, dark-hued beauty.

The music of pianist-composer Philip Clouts combines jazz and world music influences, both of which have been integral throughout his musical life. Philip Clouts is drawn to the freedom of jazz and to the rootedness of world music, genres which bring to his compositions both rhythmic vitality and stylistic diversity. Born in Cape Town, Philip Clouts has been particularly influenced by the immediacy of South African music. Umoya is the Zulu word for 'life force', and can also betranslated as 'soul' and 'spirit'. This word has become the title of one of Philip's songs, and of this whole album.

Four years since their first release, the time has come for Paul Fox and the Paul Fox Collective to break their silence with a disc documenting the new facets and colours to their sounds, developed through dozens of tours since, and hours of experimentation in the studio. A Luxembourg based composer and drummer, Paul Fox strives for his music to be as approachable as possible to any listener, and on his disc with Odradek Jazz the themes are just as melodic and singable as ever. But 'Breaking the Silence' makes a clean break with the more traditional sound-world of their previous album, and opens a new musical chapter for the group. In his statement, Paul Fox recounts how he enjoys that moment just before the start of a song, with the audience eagerly awaiting the first note to sound while the band finds its focus. That fleeting moment of silence, so full of positive energy, and then that first sound which fractures it like a broken pane of glass 'Breaking the Silence' is dedicated to this moment.

The album as a whole is, in fact, significantly better than much of the Kasenatz-Katz catalog. There may not be a killer single like “Simon Says” or “Gimme Gimme Good Lovin’,” but there are also no filler tracks. The album is a great listen from beginning to end, combining bubblegum, pop, folk and Latin influences. this was not a Mexican psychedelic pastiche, but rather a fine example of late ’60s bubblegum.
