Born in Western Australia to immigrant parents who had fled the communist regime in Poland, Konrad's musical affinity and passion for jazz piano revealed itself early on. On this album, Konrad Paszkudzki and his piano join together with Dylan Shamat, bass, and Dag Markhus, drums, to compile a 13-track SACD full of jazz's favorite staples from the Cole Porter songbook.

Court life in 17th and 18th century Germany provided a rich cultural climate: the countless Princes and Dukes competed each other in maintaining court orchestras of the highest caliber, fighting for the best musicians and composers. Both composers on this CD, Georg Philipp Telemann and Johann Melchior Molter, held the post of Kapellmeister at the court of Johann Wilhelm of Saxe-Eisenach, Molter being the successor of his illustrious colleague Telemann.

The St Catharine's Girls' Choir is currently made up of 28 girls, aged between eight and fifteen (years four to ten), drawn from local schools. The choir meets twice a week - on Monday and Tuesday afternoons after school - and sings a service in chapel every Tuesday, as well as participating in special concerts. There are a small number of 'pre-probationers' (school year 3) who attend on Mondays only and do not ordinarily participate in services.

Dall Abaco was born in 1710 in Brussels, he followed in the footsteps of his father and studied music, showing such talent that at the age of 19 he was appointed cellist in the court orchestra of Prince Clemens August of Bavaria in Bonn, 10 years later becoming its Kapellmeister.

The Staples' story goes all the way back to 1915 in Winona, Mississippi, when patriarch Roebuck "Pops" Staples entered the world. A contemporary and familiar of Charley Patton's, Roebuck quickly became adept as a solo blues guitarist, entertaining at local dances and picnics. He was also drawn to the church, and by 1937 he was singing and playing guitar with the Golden Trumpets, a spiritual group based out of Drew, Mississippi. Moving to Chicago four years later, he continued playing gospel music with the Windy City's Trumpet Jubilees. A decade later Pops Staples (as he had become known) presented two of his daughters, Cleotha and Mavis, and his one son, Pervis, in front of a church audience, and the Staple Singers were born. This is a very rare Stereo The Staple Singers What The World Needs Now Is Love! Epic Records 1968 year.

It is not well remembered, but in the wake of the enormous brouhaha over folk musicians going electric, a lot of musicians identified with the pre-rock folk era did go electric, or pop, just for a little while. This late-'60s album by Burl Ives is one of the most ludicrous examples. Perhaps it was felt that getting Ives to cover contemporary material with modern arrangements might appeal to those who felt Ives doing what he'd been doing for so many years was an anachronism (which it was). So he did a set including four Bob Dylan songs, Tim Hardin's "If I Were a Carpenter," Simon & Garfunkel's "Homeward Bound," and straight pop tunes like "Gentle on My Mind" and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix."

It was the early 2000 and downtempo and acid jazz were being smothered by the rise of French Touch house. But they found an escape route when lounge music flared into life, with its 90 BPM tempos, played at cool hangouts like the Mezzanine de l'Alcazar in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the Buddha Bar or the Costes hotel, all of which have brought out compilations in their own names. Although the movement wasn't quite a musical revolution, radio programmers took advantage of it to soften their playlists, and lounge invaded the bars and restaurants of Paris (soon to be replaced by Deep House, which was then languishing in a very deep basement indeed).
