This second volume of Sakari Oramo's Bacewicz series features three rarely recorded works, played with conviction by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and featuring Peter Donohoe as the soloist in the Piano Concerto. Grazyna Bacewicz was a pioneering twentieth-century Polish composer, known for her vibrant and dynamic musical language. Her music bridges the gap between neoclassicism and modernism, and is extremely well crafted. The Concerto for Piano and Orchestra was written in 1949 in response to the Frederic Chopin Composers' Competition announced by the Polish Composers' Union to commemorate the centenary of Chopin's death. In the category of works for piano and orchestra it received the second prize - no first prize was awarded at all! The Second Symphony, finished in January 1951, was performed for the first time at the opening of the First Festival of Polish Music later that year. It is in fact the composer's third symphony, Bacewicz having discarded the first one.

Sorcerer, the third album by the second Miles Davis Quintet, is in a sense a transitional album, a quiet, subdued affair that rarely blows hot, choosing to explore cerebral tonal colorings. Even when the tempo picks up, as it does on the title track, there's little of the dense, manic energy on Miles Smiles – this is about subtle shadings, even when the compositions are as memorable as Tony Williams' "Pee Wee" or Herbie Hancock's "Sorcerer." As such, it's a little elusive, since it represents the deepening of the band's music as they choose to explore different territory. The emphasis is as much on complex, interweaving chords and a coolly relaxed sound as it is on sheer improvisation, though each member tears off thoroughly compelling solos. Still, the individual flights aren't placed at the forefront the way they were on the two predecessors – it all merges together, pointing toward the dense soundscapes of Miles' later '60s work.

On moisturizer, listeners find Wet Leg back at the party, dealing with knotty relationships with an acerbic attitude. But they'll also find a new emotional complexity emerging through the band's cool veneer. Understandable, since the band's singer Rhian Teasdale has opened up about falling in love with their non-binary partner, and in PinkNews mentioned the difficulties of writing about "lusting after a guy … maybe that was something in my subconscious that was just … very gay."

Buckle up, y'all. Brent Cobb wants to rock. A master storyteller from small-town Georgia who chronicles Southern life in plain-spoken songs, Cobb's spent much of his six-album career behind the comfort of an acoustic guitar. With a hollow-bodied six-string in-hand, he's blended the time-tested gaps between country, soul and folk-rock with the ease of a clear-minded drive down a two-lane blacktop on a Sunday afternoon.

The album is five recordings from five different sessions all around Los Angeles and Ventura county – outdoors in the hills of Ojai with a view of the Topatopa Mountains, an intimate living room setting in Elysian Park, in an Oak Tree Cathedral at the Churchill Orchard in Ojai, a Garden of Electronics in the courtyard of an Echo Park home, and a recording session under a pepper tree at Elsewhere in Topanga Canyon.

    Genre: Pop, Folk, Soft Rock

Out of print in the U.S.! Digitally remastered two CD compilation from the '70s Soft Rock hitmakers with different artwork than the long-deleted U.S. version. From the late '60s to the early '80s, nobody created music as lush and beautiful as the Carpenters. They were in a class by themselves with Karen's haunting and lovely voice and Richard's expert arrangements. Unlike most of their compilations, Yesterday Once More creates different moods by featuring the tracks in non-chronological order. Disc One mixes Soft Pop and Soft Rock ('Superstar', 'I Won't Last a Day Without You' and their excellent cover of Klaatu's 'Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft') while Disc Two features a more mellow, ballad heavy mixture of audio wonder ('We've Only Just Begun', 'This Masquerade' and the all-time classic '(They Long to Be) Close to You'). a truly fantastic collection by the duo and a perfect selection for those wanting to relive the magic of the Carpenters. 27 tracks. Universal.
