Dekmantel Ten is a mirror of Dekmantel Festival. The 7x12" boxset includes seven records that mirror the seven stages to be found at the 2024 event, their 10th edition since 2013. The tracklisting isn't rigid — some of the musicians gathered here have in fact played at most of the available stages — but like a Möbius strip looping round, or a cat-and-mouse game, it's not hard to discern a symbiotic relationship. Split seven ways, DKMNTL100 is a testament to the art of curation and the importance of quality control. At artist level, Dekmantel Ten finds room for several artists — including Karenn, Jeff Mills and Marcel Dettmann — who played at the very first Dekmantel Festival in 2013, and are by now impossible to detach. The Loop's disc contains names whose stories have dovetailed alongside the festival, concluding in memorable headline moments: Young Marco, Palms Trax and Alchemical Sisters, aka Eris Drew and Octo Octa.

Eric Clapton’s fifth full-length studio album, Slowhand, was released on 25 November 1977 by RSO Records, and titled after Clapton's nickname; it remains one of his most commercially and critically successful studio albums. Slowhand produced the two hit singles ‘Lay Down Sally’ and ‘Wonderful Tonight’, and hit big on international music charts the world over. • In a retrospective review for AllMusic, Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote that the confident, virtuosic quality in the band's playing and the diversity of the songwriting made Slowhand "rank with 461 Ocean Boulevard as Eric Clapton's best albums". • Eric and his band began touring the new record in Japan where they played 8 nights in September and October ’77, prior to the release date, and then reconvened in February ’78, taking the tour to the US. Opening this leg in Seattle, Washington, by the 11th of the month the entourage had moved down the West Coast and were in Santa Monica where they performed 2 nights at the city’s Civic Auditorium. The second show there was deemed one of the tour’s finest events and was recorded for live FM Broadcast, and is now featured in its entirety on this new double CD set. A stunning performance by Eric and his group, fans of the great man are certain to want to add this new release to their collections

John Storgårds’s acclaimed series of Shostakovich symphonies continues with this recording of Symphony No. 13. The BBC Philharmonic is joined by the bass-baritone Albert Dohmen and the Estonian National Male Choir. The symphony, subtitled ‘Babiy Yar’, caused a great deal of tension and controversy in the lead-up to its première, in December 1962 – not because of the music, but the poetry. Shostakovich had chosen to set Yevgeny Yevtushenko’s Babiy Yar. Ostensibly an outraged response to the lack of a memorial for the thousands of Jews murdered by the Nazis and dumped in a ravine near Kyiv, the poem implicitly criticised the anti-Semitism then still rife in the Soviet Union.

Albert Dietrich’s music is only now being revived 100 years after his death. Dietrich was the music director at the Oldenburg Court, Germany, from 1861-1891. His friendship with Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms helped to raise his profile and throughout his lifetime his music was frequently performed. Both Schumann and Brahms valued him very highly as a composer and Brahms often visited Dietrich in Oldenburg to perform with him. To celebrate this forgotten composer’s 100th anniversary, the Oldenburg State Orchestra under their Music Director Alexander Rumpf join forces with two soloists to perform three of Albert Dietrich’s most important works.

The small Opus 111 imprint records many of the small gems of Baroque and Classical music. Here is a disc from the fine Belgian historical-performance ensemble Il Fondamento. Johann Adolf Hasse is remembered mostly as an opera composer, but he also contributed copiously to the large corpus of now-undiscovered religious music of the middle eighteenth century. The Requiem in C major that makes up the bulk of the present disc, in particular, was widely recognized for its originality in Hasse's own time, as is attested to by the large numbers of copies of the work that have been found all over Europe.

As refined as it is technically challenging, the lute music of Albert de Rippe (né Alberto da Ripa) is notable for its lush palette and dense brilliance – illustrated by the miniature masterpieces heard here: fantasias, chanson intabulations, and dance arrangements (the three most popular genres of the Renaissance repertoire), which in the hands of Paul O’Dette become marvellously expressive and poetic.

Warner Classics brings you a rendition of his masterpiece Transfigured Night, originally for string sextet but here performed in a version for reduced string orchestra. This piece, based on a poem by Dehmel that resounded deeply with Schoenberg sentimental life at the time of its compositions, is an absolute summit of late Romanticism. Jeffrey Tate’s musicians from the ECO also play the iridescent second Chamber Symphony, lately published after numerous revisions but still very Romantic in tone.

If you wish to judge a man by the company he keeps, then look no further than the Hall of Fame that is the listing above, a roll call of the good and the great musicians that enrich Fame's music. If the The Whole World's Shaking collection of Columbia recordings captured Fame the young R&B Mod God, then Survival signposts the later material which found Fame calling on a classic line-up of Brit and American jazzers. The public profile may not have been so high, but the music has grown all the richer. Two of the six CDs here cover the years 1991 to 2015 and feature top bands, Brit (notably with Guy Barker) and US, in full flow. Likewise, Fame's voice, if not as elastic as before, finds him able to narrate a lyric as few can (check out what he does with Fran Landesman's lyrics to ‘Eros Hotel’). It also finds him as the carrier of the flame: where once he was a young tyro, now he is putting listeners in touch with Mose Allison, Ray Charles and Ben Sidran, keeping the heritage live with songs like ‘Mose Knows’ and ‘Flamingo All Nighter’. There's a wadge of unreleased material, with the most notable plums appearing on the fourth disc, a whole unreleased live at the Lyceum set featuring an incandescent Alan Skidmore. Throw in an intelligent interview with Paolo Hewitt and handsome packaging and your Fame collection should now be complete.

arpenters - The Complete Singles features, for the very first time, the A- and B-side of every Carpenters single released on A&M Records in the United States between 1969 and 1989 in their original single versions. As longtime fans and collectors know, the Carpenters' singles frequently featured variations in mixes, length, vocals and instrumentation from the familiar album versions and subsequent remixes. These unique single versions have been highly sought-after on CD, and some of the tracks have never previously been released in the CD format at all.

The remix saga of Roxette started early on. We released the “Dance Passion” album which contained remixes of a few songs from our debut album “Pearls Of Passion” in 1987. To tell the truth, I never listened to D.P. that much. And I’m pretty sure Marie didn’t listen to it at all. No, that album wasn’t really our cup of tea. However, time went by and before long we found out about new amazing DJ’s, remixers and producers doing stunning stuff to original and great songs. We definitely wanted to be part of that journey! It’s very exciting to hear new interpretations of your own music, made by talented people coming in with new ideas from different angles. Now, after 35+ years, it’s time for the collected works. The Roxette Remixes. ROX RMX.

Esoteric Recordings is proud to announce the release of a new re-mastered five-disc deluxe expanded boxed set limited edition (comprising 4 CDs and a DVD) of Modern Music the legendary 1976 album by Be Bop Deluxe.
Much of the material appearing on the album was conceived by Bill Nelson whilst Be Bop Deluxe were undertaking their first tour of the USA in March 1976. The wonderful and expansive Modern Music “suite” which dominated the album was inspired by Bill’s experiences of America, the disillusionment with the US music business and a longing for home. Beside the fine achievement of the suite, Modern Music also featured other fine songs such as Orphans of Babylon, Kiss of Light, The Bird Charmers Destiny and the epic Down on Terminal Street, all of which ensured that the album was a hit in both the UK and the USA…

Recorded live at The Paris Cinema & The Other, London, England. 1967-1971. This is a seriously fascinating series that is being done by a guy called Hummus905. He has taken mono (and sometimes stereo) recordings, and separated them into individual stems representing the different instruments. Then he remixes and and remasters the stems into a new stereo version. The results are not at all like those "simulated stereo" mixes you've heard in the past.

You have in your hands music by one of the most remarkable pianists to emerge from jazz. Hyperbole? No, Howard Riley is as unique as he is steeped in the jazz tradition but then, if you’re a fan, you know this already. If, however, you’re a newcomer to his art, you’re in for a precious series of glimpses of a truly inspired and inspiring pianist.
Between 1968-1974, Riley released four trio albums with a fifth set of performances from 1974/5 appearing as Overground on Emanem in 2001. All are essential. All of those albums featured bass-meister Barry Guy, while the drum chair was occupied first by Jon Hiseman, then Alan ‘AJ’ Jackson and latterly by Tony Oxley. The first of these sets, all from BBC broadcasts with excellent sound, has Hiseman behind the kit, the others Jackson. If you are new to Howard Riley’s music, this could well be the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
