2004 release from this soul legend whose songs continue to be heard in their original versions and re-invented contemporary versions- from Marvin Gaye, Qunicy Jones and Minnie Riperton to Maxwell, G-Unit and Brandy, to name a few. Blending his jazz and soul roots with the rhythms of Brazil, this collection of songs feature his sensual and soulful vocals along with the talents of Brazilian guitarist Sandro Albert- naming it "R & BOSSA". Lyrically, Ware is a spiritually inspired messenger of love, an optimistic poet who dispenses doses of wisdom along with poignant prayers of oneness. He and Albert dressed the tracks luxuriously with intimate acoustic guitar riffs, classy piano flourishes, cinematic string sounds and Bossa Nova percussion.

If you are still looking for proof that quantity and quality need not be mutually exclusive in the case of composing geniuses, you will find plenty here. Listening and discovering is pure pleasure', wrote FonoForum when the first part of Telemann's cantatas of the French Year was released on cpo. And Vol. 2 of our large-scale and unbelievably exciting project with the world's first complete recording of a complete vintage of 72 large-scale church cantatas by Georg Philipp Telemann (Frankfurt 1714 / 15) again does justice to these statements. This time, on 2 CDs, cantatas for Laetare (Sunday of the Dead), Oculi (Sunday of Lent), Easter and the 22nd to 24th Sundays after Trinity can be heard, depending on the occasion with different musical means of expression and very expressive. It is this ingenuity, this astonishing imagination, which accounts for Telemann's special status - today as well as during his lifetime. Worth discovering, not only for Telemann fans!

Stephen Varcoe's nothing less than a marvel. His voice doesn't have either the size or the beauty of, say, Bryn Terfel's, but he sings Lieder. The intonation is dead-on true, the tone clear, the diction immaculate. He phrases sound as supple as a great pop singer, like Bennett, Sinatra, Tormé, or Astaire. He has no annoying vocal mannerisms to snatch attention from the music. He sings superbly even in dialect. Even more wonderful, he has solved the chief problem of a singer of songs: that of "naturalness." He communicates. He knows what the texts are about and can convey them to the listener. He's a singing story-teller. I'd love to hear a Winterreise from him, or a Fauré recital.

Half a century separates the Martha Argerich of today from the one found in this tenth volume of archives published by Doremi. Unsurprisingly, we hear the repertoire that the Argentinian-born pianist has taken up constantly since her youth: Ravel's Concerto in G, Prokofiev's Third or Beethoven's Second, played with this incredible mixture of volcanic temperament and fervor with a virtuosity that she knew how to keep intact until our days.

It's possible to find through-lines of the new romantic strain of pop throughout this Bill Nelson release, with washes of synthesizer and dance-of-electrocution rhythms going on all over the place, but the true fascination is the mix of a post-ironic tone and a cultured sensitivity to art and beauty. While Nelson puts his guitar chops on display periodically through the album (much of it with E-bow in hand), this is far from being a guitar album - all of the disparate elements are too well-integrated for any to assume a point of focus. There is a sweetness and a lightness to a great deal of the work Nelson put into this album, and this makes it infinitely listenable. In some respects, this is also a record that will teach listeners everything they need to know about Bill Nelson - it touches on all aspects of what he does.

Half a century separates the Martha Argerich of today from the one found in this eleventh volume of archives published by Doremi. We find there the works that the Argentinean pianist has been cultivating for so long, here Beethoven's Concerto No. 1 captured at the 1971 Salzburg Festival with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra in its best years under the direction of friend Claudio Abbado, a conductor who was particularly important in the career of Martha Argerich and with whom she played throughout her life. We find her the same year in Liszt's First Concerto under the baton of Moshe Atzmon.

This release is the fruit of the French pianist Nicolas Stavy’s efforts to uncover unknown works by Dmitri Shostakovich. Spanning some fifty years of the composer’s career, these rarities include early piano pieces influenced by Chopin and the fragment of an unfinished violin sonata, but is bookended by arrangements of symphonic music, by Shostakovich himself and by Mahler, a constant influence.

Probably born in Hamburg in 1623, Dietrich Becker not only mastered organ playing, but also developed into an outstanding violinist and composer. His music-historical importance lies primarily in the field of instrumental music, but his contribution to sacred music also shows him to be a distinguished composer: five sacred concertos from his pen have survived in their entirety; they are united as first recordings on this release. The form and style of the sacred concertos show typical similarities: As instrumental parts, Becker preferred a full-voiced string instrumentation; the singing parts are not conducted virtuosically, but predominantly syllabically, and serve primarily a clear reproduction of the text and follow the effect of the text. Singing voices and instruments frequently confront each other in dialogue.

An intriguing element of Michael Feinberg’s superb Criss Cross debut is that the leader could easily have titled it “Bassist In The Background” (Fans of Duke Ellington’s wonderful 1960 LP "Pianist In The Background" will know what I mean). Throughout Blues Variant – which includes six tunefully percolating originals by Feinberg, one by tenor saxophonist Noah Preminger, and one by pianist Leo Genovese – the 35-year-old bass maestro hews to the mantra, “If you want to hear me solo, come to a gig, where I often play a solo on every tune”.

Under the title "It is good for me", the words from the 73rd Psalm, love songs, jubilant and psalm chants from the 17th century by Johann Rosenmüller, Claudio Monteverdi, Nicolò Corradini and others can be heard with the tenor Georg Poplutz, who is highly esteemed for his "expressive yet sensitive interpretation" and is now one of the most sought-after interpreters in baroque music. Here are his personal words about this album: "It is now also a pleasure for us to be able to present this program to you, which we hope will give you as much pleasure in listening to it as it gives us in making mu-sic! I would like to thank Arno Paduch for his tireless research and rediscovery of new (for our generation) works of this already old music. I am very pleased that we have now been able to record all these treasures and present some of the settings on album for the first time. To sing these works is indeed good for me - once more to God's glory and to the people, yes, to you for edification and joy!
