On this album, jazz guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli pays simultaneous tribute to the pop music of his adolescence (Steely Dan, Billy Joel, the Allman Brothers, Elvis Costello) and the jazz tradition in which he, as a member of the celebrated Pizzarelli dynasty, was steeped from his earliest years. The album title refers to the fact that the program takes classic pop songs and puts them in jazz settings: thus you'll hear a cool bossa nova arrangement of Joni Mitchell's "Free Man in Paris," a completely natural lounge-lizard setting of Tom Waits' "Drunk on the Moon," and a hard-swinging, boppish version of James Taylor's "Traffic Jam" that sounds like it was written for the Manhattan Transfer and incorporates the Joe Henderson composition "The Kicker."

With the exception of a few works by Ottorino Respighi, and for reasons which are relatively obscure, the orchestral concert music of the generation of Italian composers to which Ildebrando Pizzetti belongs has—so far as international acceptance is concerned—remained little-known outside Italy.

The process of making this record also underlines the power of singing: a major part of the practice work took place in the times of isolation on spring 2020, due to restrictions on singing together caused by the pandemic.

Psycho Praxis are a near perfect sound mélange of British heavy prog and Italian progressive rock. Hailing from Brescia the band's debut album "Echoes from the Deep" doesn't sound like a new band trying to cash in on retro-prog, rather, it sounds like an authentic lost album from the early 70s with quality thrills and chills. Imagine the slightly creepy and unpredictable edge of Van der Graaf Generator mixed with the whirling, feverish flutes of Osanna, and the keyboard textures of Metamorfosi. The band employ English vocals rather than Italian, but even the hardest core RPI fan will surely forgive them because the music is so good.

Epistrophobia takes off where Fragmentropy landed: Chapters 4 to 6 are offered here. t dives in even deeper into the abysses and fears of the individual admidst populism, neocapitalism, digital anonymity… in a nutshell: in modern life. This album sounds like a synopsis of all t albums so far and surely is his most balanced and most melodic approach so far – which doesn’t mean that the manifold versality for which t has always been known or the sparkling affluence of ideas has ceased just one bit. Certainly his best work so far!
