Scottish soul-rock singer Maggie Bell first gained prominence singing with Stone the Crows, which released its first album in 1970 and broke up in June 1973.

The edition brings together Berliner Philharmoniker recordings from the last ten years.

The Jubilee Quartet follow their critically acclaimed debut album of Haydn (RCD1039) with two contrasting quartets by Schubert. The sunny and joyful D.87, his 10th quartet dates from his 16th year. Already the singing quality of the writing is apparent. The late G Major quartet, the composer’s 15th and final quartet dates from 1826. The emotions here are extreme – dramatic, violent, painful, menacing, introverted and innocent. Written on a large scale, this work is a groundbreaking masterpiece that stands shoulder to shoulder with the late Beethoven quartets.

The compositions for violin and piano recorded here were written between 1945 and 1960. Although Kurt Albrecht, Mátyás Seiber and Joachim Schweppe never met and their biographies took very different turns, they ultimately appear connected through their contemporaries. National Socialism and the Second World War left their mark on the lives of all three composers.
